Meet Tucker who is looking for a loving forever home.
Tucker is a 5-year-old, 25 lb Aussiedoodle with a really special story. I met her two years ago when she was 3, and what was supposed to be a simple meet-and-greet turned into something I’ll never forget. I was told she just needed a new home because of a divorce, but the dog that was placed in my arms was nothing like I expected. She was skin and bones, only 15 pounds, covered in fleas, with patches of missing fur. You could feel every bone in her body, and she was so thin it hurt her just to sit down. I knew right then I couldn’t leave her there.
We brought her home, got her cleaned up, and took her straight to the vet. That’s when we found out she had Lyme disease and is deaf. From there, it was a long road of helping her heal. Slowly but surely she gained weight, her fur grew back, and she started to come out of her shell. She learned how to live in a home, became house trained, and started to understand what it meant to feel safe.
Now Tucker is healthy, full of life, and incredibly loving. She wants to be close to her people all the time. She loves curling up next to you on the couch, sleeping at your feet, going for walks, and riding in the car. She has that Aussiedoodle energy and absolutely loves to run. She’s great with kids and has a really sweet, gentle way about her, especially with little ones. She can be a little nervous when meeting new people and will bark at first, but once she settles she is affectionate and friendly.
This is where things get hard for us. We have a very busy home with four kids, including a toddler, an elderly family member with dementia, three cats, and a senior German Shepherd. Tucker needs more time, attention, and training than we’re able to give her right now, especially with her being deaf. She startles easily and needs patience and consistency, which is difficult in a house with so much going on.
Safety has also become a real concern. She has a strong tendency to try to escape. She has dug under the fence and even gotten out through a window before. We live along a busy highway, and she was hit by a car once after getting out. Thankfully she survived, but it was a wake-up call. With her being deaf, she has no awareness of traffic, and we are constantly worried something worse could happen.
On top of that, things between her and our older German Shepherd have become tense. What started as helpful has turned into repeated fights, and we are worried someone could get hurt, especially with our young child or elderly family member nearby if something happens and we can’t intervene quickly.
Making this decision has been incredibly hard. Tucker has come so far, and we love her very much. But we know she deserves a calmer home where she can get the attention, structure, and safety she needs.
She would do best in a home where someone is around most of the time, with a secure environment and someone willing to continue working with her. She truly is a loving, loyal dog who just wants to feel safe and be close to her person.

Tucker’s adoption fee is $200 to a screened and approved home only. You must live within a 2.5 hour drive of Tamaqua, PA to be considered for adoption.
