The third annual Wag-a-thon 2016 to benefit Deaf Dogs Rock was hosted by our friends at Good Dog University and K-9 Daycare Center in West Springfield MA. The organizer and fellow deaf dog owner Kim Balboni reported this year’s Wag-a-thon was a huge success raising 3991.50 to go towards sponsoring deaf dogs out of kill shelters into the safe harbors of rescue.

What is a Wag-a-thon? Well I’ll explain. Each dog is given 30 seconds to see how many times they can wag their tail. For each wag the guardian of that doe agrees to an amount of money for each wag. The K-9 Daycare camp counselors were in charge of making the pups who where participating in the Wag-a-thon as happy as they could to get them to wag their tails fast. Some of the pups needed a bribe of yummy smelling cookies while others just needed to see a leash in hopes of going for a walk. Many of the dogs got excited when the camp counselors showed them a basket full of tennis balls and some just needed to hear their names to get those tails a wagging.

There are several deaf dogs that attend the Good Dog University and K-9 Daycare. We know of at least one deaf dog who attends the daycare center who’s guardians found him on our Deaf Dogs Rock website. This year’s Wag-a-thon broke all the previous years records by a landslide raising an additional $1500.00 over last year’s total. Wow!

A big huge shout out and thank you go out to the entire Good Dog University and K-9 Daycare team for continuing to hold this amazing event every year to benefit Deaf Dogs Rock. Right around June we run low on funds so in order for us to continue sponsoring deaf dogs out of kill shelters we are blessed to have supporters like this organization who come through for us every year when we really need help.

This year DDR has already sponsored 50 deaf dogs into partner rescues. Because of the kindness and generosity of the entire Wag-a-thon team, Deaf Dogs Rock can continue on our mission to sponsor deaf dogs and puppies out of kill shelters into the safe harbors of rescue.
