Meet adoptable deaf dog Squirt who is looking for a loving forever home with someone who will become his new best friend and always keep him safe.
Squirt is a 2-year-old deaf gentleman who may need a little time to decide you’re his person—but once he does, he’s more than happy to soak up all the love and pets you have to offer!
Squirt is neutered, microchipped, up to date on vaccinations, and looking for a family who understands that sometimes the best friendships aren’t instant—they’re built on a little patience and trust.
Before coming to the shelter, Squirt had only ever known one home his entire life. He was surrendered alongside his two siblings when their family found themselves with more animals than they could continue to care for. Through absolutely no fault of his own, Squirt suddenly went from everything he’d always known to an unfamiliar shelter environment.
Understandably, Squirt can take a little time to warm up to new people. Give him the opportunity to get comfortable and figure you out, though, and you’ll meet a different dog. Once he feels safe, Squirt loves being petted and enjoys the affection and companionship of the people he trusts.
Squirt is also deaf, but that doesn’t prevent him from building a connection with the people around him. He simply experiences communication differently. With patience, consistency, visual cues, and positive reinforcement, his future family can continue helping him learn while building an incredible bond along the way.
Squirt is currently heartworm positive and will need appropriate treatment and veterinary care. While that’s another piece of his journey, it certainly doesn’t define who he is.
Squirt has already experienced a huge change in his young life. Now he needs someone willing to give him the time to settle in, learn that he’s safe, and show his sweet side at his own pace.
If you believe some of the best relationships are the ones you earn, give Squirt a chance. Once you’re part of his circle, you just might find yourself with a very devoted little shadow.
Squirt is available for adoption at the Plaquemines Campus at 455 F. Edward Hebert Blvd in Belle Chasse. We are open Tuesday-Saturday 10-5. For any questions, please call 504-934-6931 or email plaqueminescampus@laspca.org.
