It gives me great pleasure to feature Spring’s (aka Starlet) Happy Tail with our readers. Starlet was listed on DeafDogsRock.com under Adoptable Deaf Dogs for over 6 months and I couldn’t figure out why she was still available. She was a stunning young pup who really needed a person who would take her to higher levels of training so she can represent the wonderful traits of her breed even though she is deaf. Now I know why it took so long because the right person had not come along for Starlet. I do believe there are Angels among us who lead people to our website at just the right time to the right dog. Such is the case with this next Happy Tail. I could not be happier for Starlet, now named Spring and her new owner Allison Holloway. Allison thank you so much for taking the time to write and share Spring’s Happy Tail with our Deaf Dogs Rock community. According to my two deaf dogs Nitro and Bud (and myself), you two totally ROCK!

After adopting my first deaf dog, a double merle blind and deaf Aussie I named Lottie Moon, I discovered the beautiful, sweet world of deaf dogs. Lottie surprised me with all she was able to do, including some modified agility. I became involved in rescue and education for deaf dogs, and in speaking with a prospective adopter one day, I was told that deaf dogs would not be able to do competitive agility. I disagreed, and decided that I needed a deaf border collie that could show everyone just how capable deaf dogs can be, even in the competitive world of agility trials. So I started a slow search that lasted several months, to find the right deaf dog with the right personality and skills that I needed. One day I saw a picture of Starlet on Deaf Dogs Rock, and I felt like I had found my dog.

After talking with the breeder, I made arrangements to bring Starlet (who I later renamed “Spring”) from Texas to Ohio. And when I met her, I knew she was perfect. Spring has now been with me just over 3 months, and she is such a joy. She is funny and sweet and has beautiful athletic ability. She’s quick and fast and can stop and turn on a dime – just what I was looking for!

I’ve started her on agility equipment and it is going well. We just returned from Dog Scout Camp in Michigan, where Spring earned her Dog Scout Certification, and has started earning badges, too.

She has learned to swim and lure course, and despite her crazy speed, she has become my calm and peaceful dog when I am lecturing or doing a demo. She is wonderful with other dogs as well as people, and she has beautiful leash manners and will sit sweetly by my side. She’s a perfect fit into my pack and my life, and I’m grateful to Deaf Dogs Rock for helping me find her!
