Hi!
My name is Katie Schmidt, and I am looking for a forever home for my sweet foster, Ruth. Ruth is a 1 year old Great Pyrenees. I met Ruth in September while volunteering at the Richardson Animal Shelter. Ruth was very abused and neglected as a puppy. Her past owners beat her leaving her blind and with 2 broken legs. I began fostering her right away. After several weeks without interest, the shelter advised that she be put down.

Ruth reminds us of a big white Polar bear!

Once the shelter let me know that she would need to be put down I agreed to formally adopt her and work on finding her a forever home myself. The shelter is wonderful, but honestly like All city shelters they are struggling to get “normal” dogs adopted let alone a blind dog with other medical needs.

Ruth is a bit Possessive of her food, so we have learned to give her space during that time. She would do best in a home without stairs, as she can’t climb them due to her back legs.. She can run/walk for about 20 feet at a time, then needs to take a small break. She gets along well with other animals and people!

Here is a short video of Ruth with our other dogs so you can see how she walks.

Ruth had a very hard start to life, so her forever family will need to have patients and lots of kindness. She is very sweet… Loves my kids, as well as our dog.

She is growing into a big strong girl (maybe 75lbs), but needs to learn some manners. Baby steps I guess! She is spayed and is up to date on her shots. I would require a phone call meeting as well as references. I am happy to transport for the right person as well.

Ruth is so deserving of a forever family, and we both appreciate you taking the time to read this and consider her:)

Thank you for your help!
Katie
