Meet adoptable deaf 5 month old heeler puppy River who is looking for a loving forever home with someone who will cherish her, make daily positive reinforcement training/socialization/enrichment a priority and always keep her safe.
From her caregiver: Hello, I would love to introduce River. She is a 5 month old Heeler that is of course deaf, albino and possibly mini. She is half the size of her siblings. River found what we thought was her forever home when she was 7 weeks old but her human was a new dog owner and struggled with training her and being at work too much. I later learned that she was in her kennel for the better part of 20 hours a day, M-F. So when I was asked to dog sit and help train her during the hurricane Milton evacuations, I said yes. Through a jumbled turn of events, her owner was forced to find a new home and he also never came back for River. She was so sad she would just go in her kennel and sulk with the door open. But in my heart I feel like it was better for both of them. She is the most loving, and sweet little baby girl who definitely thrives with other play mates. I home her mom and dad and would have gladly kept her but my grandfather who is 93 lives here and he is not able to go freely in and out of our home with River here.
So it’s time we find her someone who truly wants a second shadow and a really soft best friend. She has responded very well to training but she is very energetic. She has been with me since the 5th of October and she shadows mom and dad and that has helped a lot. She is very high energy and loves the water and going for walks. She currently has about 15 chew toys that she can stay active with for hours just switching back and forth, and she loves when I slide a towel across the floor with my foot. Her favorite game is tug of war, she doesn’t know I’m actually trying to dry my floors, so I let her play. She is sleeping all night and again, is crate trained. She actually likes going in her crate and sometimes puts herself there for a short nap. She doesn’t ever nap very long though and if there is any lights left on, she is just always ready to go.
River’s adoption fee is $200 to a screened and approved home only.
I currently only work weekends so I would consider traveling during the week if her new home is with in a days drive and new owner is willing to pay expenses.
