Sprite is a cute little Aussie/Border Collie mix who was pulled by Cathy Miller of Deaf Paws Haven down in Georgia for Tanya at Poet’s Vision Aussie Rescue in Perth, Ontario.Cathy and Tanya have an amazingly organized and very effective network of transport volunteers as well as foster volunteers.

Cathy Miller of Deaf Paws Haven Rescue in GA  with Sprite. Cathy pulled Sprite, did a temporary foster and also did the first leg of Sprite’s Transport. We consider Cathy not only a friend but the Deaf Dog’s Angel because she saves so many deaf dogs from sure death. She is one of our deaf dog Heroes for sure!

Sprite was heading up North and I noticed in his transport schedule that he was headed right towards Salem VA. where our Deaf Dogs Rock headquarters is so I offered to drive Leg 7 of the transport. This way I finally got to meet this little sweat heart!

Sprite and I getting ready to load up and head up the road to Staunton, VA.

I disinfected my travel dog crate, packed towels, toys, treats, stuffed Kongs, water, news papers and made sure I had all my ducks in a row for Sprite to be comfortable on his way through Virginia. I was to meet Wendy (the leg 6 driver) at the Smart Bus parking lot near Roanoke College. Everyone was running early today so Wendy met me 30 minutes early. By the time Sprite and I arrived in Staunton, VA, we were also 30 minutes early. This was great because I made it back in time to watch the Kentucky Derby!

Thanks to all of our Deaf Dogs Rock followers for your generous support. It is because of the financial support of our DDR followers that we can do transports like we did today for Sprite and Poet’s Vision. I love being able to meet the actual deaf dogs we all work so hard to network here at Deaf Dogs Rock. Sometimes I spend way to much time on my computer and on the phone arranging rescues and miss meeting the actual rescue dogs. It  was so nice to finally get to meet and love on a dog like Sprite. He sure was a cutie patootie!

Wendy drove Sprite from Wytheville, VA. Here she is with Sprite as we were loading him up in our Deaf Dogs Rock Transport vehicle.

Sprite was absolutely wonderful on his transport with me! He loved the peanut butter stuffed Kong treats but he really loved the two headed snake dog toy I put in his crate. He tossed it around, barked at it, laid on his back throwing it in the air. He really loved that darn old snake toy! So much so, I didn’t want him to leave it behind so now he is traveling with his two headed snake.

Once we got to Staunton, VA to meet Cody, I let Sprite run around in circles in the grass. He had a ball! The good news is he was about to take a nap in my car so I am pretty sure if he laid his head on Cody’s lap in the back seat, he should have dozed right off.

A big shout out goes out all the transport drivers, short term fosters, the transport coordinator Kim Kleppel, and Poet’s Vision for committing to taking Sprite and help him to be the best deaf dog he. Because of Poet’s Vision and the foster volunteers through their rescue I am sure Sprite will be can be adopted out to a wonderful family. I do hope Chilly (my last rescue who went to Poet’s Vision a few weeks ago) gets to meet Sprite. I couldn’t get over how much Sprite reminded me of Chilly.

If you would like to make a donation to help out with some of Sprite’s upcoming expenses, I know Poet’s Vision would really appreciate any support you can give. You can donate by clicking here to go to Poet’s Vision Donate page and to view a list of items the rescue can use for the dogs.

With teamwork and cooperation, anything is possible! I feel blessed to be working with and meeting such amazing rescuers every single day.

According to my deaf dogs Nitro, Bud and myself you all totally ROCK. Happy travels Sprite and may God Bless you and keep you safe!
