Last year I had the pleasure of being interviewed by Dog Trainer, Author, and Educator Michelle Hunting with the Kenyon Canine Institute on Blog Talk Radio. We had a great time and she was eager to learn more about what we do here at Deaf Dogs Rock. Michelle is also the founder of the Kenyan Canine Institute which provides education of excellence for upcoming professional dog trainers.
I am huge fan of Michelle’s and what she does to help dog owners help their dogs become the best dogs they can be through positive reinforcement. She also loves what we do here at DeafDogsRock.com so much so, she asked me if I would write a chapter in her new book about training a deaf dog to “come”. Although I don’t consider myself a writer, I was honored to be able to contribute.
Michelle’s book “Come Boy!” is now available and you can now pick up this wonderful training resource on Amazon or Kindle. She has great advice on easy teaching methods you can do right at home to teach your dogs to “come”. The “come” command is one of the most important training commands we can teach our hearing and deaf dogs. A good recall can save a dog’s life!
I want to thank Michelle Hunting for believing in me enough to ask me to contribute to her new book “Come Boy!”. Nitro and I are honored! I also want to thank dog trainer Bobbie Patterson Wiggins and her deaf puppy Riley for being my models to photograph visual images of my tips to how to train a deaf dog to “come” using consistent positive reinforcement training techniques with positive sign and body language.
Michelle Hunting will also be joining Nitro and I at this year’s Dogtoberfest coming up this Saturday October 4, 2014 from 10am-4pm at the Saint Francis Service Dogs training facility here in Roanoke at 8232 Enon Dr. Roanoke, VA 24019. Stop by and get an autographed copy of Michelle Hunting’s new book “Come Boy!”. We look forward to seeing you there.
