May 2017 was another busy month for us here at Deaf Dogs Rock but we are proud to say many people took advantage of our Rocker Puppy Program and we sponsored some amazing deaf and deaf/vision impaired dogs into partner organizations. What is so great about this program as soon as the puppies get delivered from their transports they can start their sign training, socialization, and also attend basic obedience classes. When each dog or puppy arrives at their final destinations, they get an opportunity to decompress, learn the basics of living with a foster family, (which consists of a structured schedule of eating, playing, learning their sign, potty training, and socialization) so they can have a strong training foundation in which to build upon to be set up for success.
At the end of April we had sponsored 51 deaf dogs so far this year. Add the 10 deaf dogs we sponsored in May and our Deaf Dogs Rock community has sponsored 61 deaf dogs/puppies so far in 2017!
A big shout out and thanks to all the experienced and amazing foster families who give so much of their time for the special needs puppies. Also a big shout out to the partner organizations to not only except our Rocker Puppy recipients into their organizations but get them into amazing and experience foster homes, take them to their vet appointments, and also their commitment to training/socialization to help each dog be the very best it can be. According to our head deaf dogs here at Deaf Dogs Rock (Nitro, Bud and Bowie), you all totally Rock!
We would also be remiss if we didn’t mention our amazing deaf dog community who supports us financially so we can continue to sponsor deaf dogs and puppies into partner organizations. We could not do what we do without all of you so thank you all from the bottom of my heart!
~ Christina Lee – Deaf Dogs Rock
IceThanks to Green Dogs Unleashed for excepting deaf/vision impaired Ice into their rescue. He is such a doll baby!
Q-Ball and Bear
These two Aussie pups had several great adoption applications come in and they were both adopted here in Virginia (and I was lucky enough to meet them and transport them back to Virginia from SC)
Mario
Thanks to Speak for The Unspoken Rescue in Ohio for pulling deaf dog Mario who was at the Portage Co. Dog Pound for several months (and thanks to the staff at the pound for not putting him to sleep).
Vance
A big shout out to Operation Save A Dog for pulling Vance to safety. He is a Heartworm positive pup and this rescue has seen a lot of HW+ dogs lately so every dollar that goes towards sponsoring a deaf dog like Vance will help the rescue help the next dog. Thanks to our supporters we can sponsor Vance through our Deaf Dogs Rock Rocker Puppy Program. He is now in foster care until he can get over his kennel cough. Thanks Julia for the update and for taking such good care of this boy.
Thor
When Deaf Dogs Rock offered a Rocker Puppy Rescue sponsorship for deaf dog Thor we hoped a rescue would make room for him to pull this sweet deaf boy and get him into rescue and sure enough thanks to One By One Rescue Project, Thor was pulled on May 21, 17.
Foxy
Kit
Thanks to Green Dogs Unleashed for making room for deaf dog Kit and Foxy who were transported by Highway Heroes Rescue Transport Team all the way from Texas to VA.
Harry – Stokes Co. NC
Harry was in pretty bad shape when he came to the Stokes County Humane Society in NC. Thanks to Lee Stalcup for keeping us updated. Deaf Dogs Rock donated $200.00 to help with Harry’s medical costs. He is on his way to his new adopted home.
Marshmellow
Thanks to Second Chance NY for making room for Marshmellow!
