Thank you to all of our supporters who donated to Deaf Dogs Rock in the month of May 2020 to keep our mission going! The core mission of our Deaf Dogs Rock Rocker Puppy program is to set up each deaf puppy/dog for success by sending them into a experienced special needs rescue where they go into a experienced deaf dog foster home that is committed to training and socializing each deaf dog that comes into their care. This way each foster advocate gets the opportunity to live with the deaf dog, work with the deaf dog, and accurately evaluate each deaf dog/puppy to make sure to match the dog with the right home once the adoption screening process starts.

Deaf Dogs Rock works with shelters, rescues, private individual and breeders to help get each deaf puppy into our Rocker Puppy program to make sure each dog gets the individual training, socialization, and love to grow up to become a cherished member of society. Deaf Dogs Rock is a judgement free zone and our number one priority will always be to help deaf dogs and puppies get a fresh start and a chance at a great life.

When screening potential homes for a deaf dog/puppy, each partner rescue has a specific set of guidelines to follow like checking all references, talking to the applicant’s veterinarian and performing a thorough home visit to make sure each home is a safe place for a deaf or deaf/blind dog. This is why our Deaf Dogs Rock Rocker Puppy is so important to set each deaf pup up for a successful happy life in their new home. Our Rocker Puppy program financially sponsors each deaf dog/puppy so the dogs can be spay/neutered before they are adopted to a new family. We only work with rescue partners and advocacy organizations who are committed in making sure each deaf pup is spay/neutered before being placed in a new home (there are special circumstances with some breeds where spay/neuter needs to wait like Dalmatians and Great Danes).

Even though donations stopped in mid March, due to the Coronavirus, that did not stop us from continuing to sponsor deaf dogs in need. Our amazing Deaf Dogs Rock community sponsored 23 deaf dogs/puppies in May, 2020 which is a huge accomplishment considering we are in the middle of a Pandemic. This breaks all of our monthly records!  Thanks to the financial support of our loyal Deaf Dogs Rock community, we can continue to help deaf dogs in need. So far since our start of our Deaf Dogs Rock Rocker Puppy sponsorship program we have sponsored 749 deaf dogs (as of 5/31/20).

So far in 2020, our Deaf Dogs Rock community has sponsored 80 deaf dogs/pups into the safe arms of rescue. We could not do it without your on going support!

Thank you, thank you, thank you! ~ Christina Lee

May 2020 Rocker Puppy Sponsorship – Recaps

Lemon and Lime – Happy Tails Rescue Society – OK

Moria Turner with Happy Tails Animal Rescue and her sister drove all the way to California (from OK) and back just to pick up these two Double Merle Aussie Doodle pups. She and her sister traveled over 26 hours each way to rescue these two little ones. Lemon and Lime were are result of a accidental litter and Moria did take the time to educate the breeder on the effects of two Merle to Merle dogs breeding.

Atom – Speak St. Louis

Sweet Atom was purchased from a breeder and taken home by a new family. They became suspicious because of the excess white on the puppy so they had a BAER test done. Sure enough little Atom was indeed deaf. They felt that Atom would do better in an experienced deaf dog home so our partner rescue in St. Louis MO, Speak St. Louis Rescue excepted Atom into their special needs rescue. Atom will be one of our Deaf Dogs Rock Rocker Puppy sponsorship recipients so he will get help with his medical needs and vetting while new homes are being thoroughly screened by the Speak team. Thanks to our wonderful community deaf puppies like Atom can get a second chance at starting their new life with a team of professionals that only have his best interests at heart.

Truman – Speak For The Unspoken – Ohio

When we got a plea to help a woman who took in two deaf boxers puppies to keep them from being dumped at the shelter, we immediately reached out to our rescue partner Andrea with Speak For The Unspoken Rescue near Columbus Ohio to see if she had an open deaf boxer foster home for Truman. Andrea not only made room for Truman, but followed up with Kathy to secure Truman for rescue and to get him safely into rescue. We let Andrea with Speak know that we have a special fund set up to help deaf boxers in need called Nitro’s Fund in memory and to honor my deaf boxer Nitro who passed away in November 2018. Because of our beloved deaf boxer Nitro, Deaf Dogs Rock is known around the world to advocate for deaf dogs and their families and to sponsor 150 deaf dogs into rescue each year with a small percentage of them being deaf white boxers.

Truman made it safely to Speak For The Unspoken in Ohio to start on his new journey of positive reinforcement training, to be vetted and also when he is ready to find a new loving forever home with a person or family who will make his needs a priority. A huge shout out to Andrea with Speak For The Unspoken and her foster home volunteers, Speak’s rescue transport drivers, and their entire team for helping to help us help Truman. A huge thank you to all of you who donate to Deaf Dogs Rock and to all the boxer lovers out there who donate to Nitro’s Fund to help us save dogs like Truman and make sure they land in a safe haven.

Casper – Speak For The Unspoken – OHIO

Sweet deaf dog Casper is in a loving foster home through Speak For The Unspoken in Ohio. Poor Casper has Heartworms so he is currently undergoing treatment for Heartworms to save his life. Casper is sponsored through our Deaf Dogs Rock Rocker Puppy sponsorship program so his sponsorship will go towards his medical needs to fight those nasty Heart-worms. Once he is through his HW Treatment he will be ready for a new  home.

Bexley – Perfect Imperfections Rescue

When Trisha with Perfect Imperfections Rescue in Watertown CT. reached out to Deaf Dogs Rock for help with Bexley, we were happy to help. Bexley is sponsored through our Deaf Dogs Rock Rocker Puppy program to help with some of his vetting expenses to get him ready for a future adoption.

Speak St Louis – The Powderpuff girls

You know it is Springtime when there are deaf and deaf/visually impaired puppies coming out of the wood work. Thanks to our friends and partner rescue Speak St. Louis Rescue the Powderpuff girls made it safely into their rescue because of their amazing volunteers. Even through a lock down and pandemic this volunteers give their hearts, their personal time to get these sweet special needs rescue pups safely into rescue.

Pictured above our sweet deaf puppies Blossom, Buttercup, Bubble and Bliss who will all be sponsored into rescue by our Deaf Dogs Rock Rocker Puppy Program fund so we can help with the costs of vetting them as soon as they get settled into their new foster homes.

Thank you to every single person who supports our Deaf Dogs Rock mission to save one deaf dog at a time. Without you we would not be able to sponsor deaf puppies in need.

Mikko – From Waco to Jailbreak Husky Rescue – Colorado

We were working with a shelter in Waco Texas and put out a rescue plea on our Deaf Dogs Rock Facebook Page with a Rocker Puppy Sponsorship offer attached to it to try to find deaf Husky Mikko a rescue. We are so happy to report that Mikko will be going to Jailbreak Husky Rescue in Colorado.

While Mikko is in foster care he has been having seizures and he is also Heartworm positive so Brooklyn with Jailbreak Husky Rescue has her job cut out for her to get him the vetting  he needs and once he is stable find him a loving forever home. We want to thank Brooklyn for making room for Mikko to get him into the safe arms of rescue. We also want to thank our generous supports who donate to Deaf Dogs Rock so we can continue to sponsor deaf dogs like Mikko into rescues.

Alfie – Speak For The Unspoken Rescue – OHIO

When Jessica reached out to us about her new deaf Aussie puppy Alfie she was overwhelmed and looking to find Alfie a home that would be better suited for his needs. We were happy to help Jessica and we told her about our Rocker Puppy Program. We sent Jessica the Rocker Puppy application and as soon as she filled it out, we reached out to our partner rescue in Ohio, Speak For The Unspoken Rescue to see if they could help. Thanks to Andrea with Speak for making Alfie’s transition into rescue easy and also for easing Jessica’s fear that she was doing the right thing by putting Alfie’s needs first. Alfie is in foster care thriving and will be available for adoption soon.

Muffin – Abandoned Angels Cocker Spaniel Rescue NY

When we got word from Maddie Bernstein the Foster and Rescue Coordinator of the Pennsylvania Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals
in Philadelphia, PA that then needed help to find a deaf/blind Double Merle Cocker Spaniel a rescue. We reached out to our friend Carol Bryant of Fidoes of Reality (who lives with a Cocker Spaniel named Dexter), we asked Carol if she had any Cocker Spaniel Rescue friends in the Northeast. Carol got right back to us and connected us to Dolores Rodrigues with Abandoned Angels Cocker Spaniel Rescue in NY. Delores and Maddie put their heads together and came up with a plan to get Muffin the deaf/blind DM Cocker into rescue. A huge shout out to all these rescue warrior women! We also appreciate shelters that go the extra mile advocating for special needs pups like Muffin and reach out to Deaf Dogs Rock to get them into a safe situation. We appreciate all your efforts.

Pearl – Happy Tails Rescue OK

Check out Pearl’s freedom ride to Happy Tails Animal Rescue in Oklahoma. Thanks to Moria Turner the Director of Happy Tails for making room in her program for sweet deaf puppy Pearl. When we saw Pearl needed some help to get into rescue we let Happy Tails Animal Rescue know that Deaf Dogs Rock would financially sponsor her into rescue through our Deaf Dogs Rock Rocker Puppy Program if they had an open foster. Well these rescue warrior women stepped up and got Pearl on a freedom ride to OK. Thanks to everyone who volunteered their time to drive and foster sweet Pearl. She is now safe and will be available for adoption in the upcoming weeks ahead.

Moo, Herbie and Archie – Deaf Dog Rescue of America

With much of California being in lock down because of the Covid 19 virus, we reached out to Deaf Dog Rescue of American to help them with some of their financial needs so Moo, Herbie and Archie could have their vetting needs met so they can become adoptable soon.

Moo

Sweet one year old deaf Chihuahua Moo is a deaf blue eyed boy who is named Moo for his cow like spots all over his body. He is a little bundle of joy of “I’m going to make you laugh” and “I’m just here for the cuddles”. He is a year and a half old.

Herbie

Sweet deaf dog Herbie is a 12 month old deaf New Zealand Huntaway. He is energetic and getting some of the additional training he needs to become a great dog. He will be available for adoption soon.

Archie

Sweet Archie is a deaf terrier mix. He is a little over one year old and he has been through four to five owners. He has clearly suffered from abuse and handled harshly, as is often the case when people don’t know a deaf puppy is deaf or have no idea how to communicate with a deaf dog (and are two lazy to learn). Archie is at the Deaf Dog Rescue of American getting rehabilitation through positive reinforcement training and being around a team of people who give him confidence and the trust he needs to move forward.

Kacee and Casper – Happy Tails Animal Rescue OK

When Deaf Dogs Rock got an urgent message from a woman in Texas who needed help finding a rescue for her daughter’s deaf puppy because her daughter was going into pre-term labor (and her daughter’s Doctors said she must be on bed rest until the baby is born), we knew we had to help.

Deaf Dogs Rock then reached out to Happy Tails Animal Rescue and asked if they could do an emergency transport to get the deaf puppy Kacee from Texas to their rescue in OK. As luck would have it, the Happy Tails transport team was heading to Texas that very weekend to pick up a deaf Double Merle Dog Casper so they were able to pick up Kacee on the way back to OK. Since Kacee was fully vetted and up to date on all her vaccines,  both Casper and Kacee were transported together into the safe arms of rescue.

A big shout out and thank you go out to Moria Turner, Kayley with Happy Tails Animal Rescue and to all of our awesome supporters who send in donations and host fundraisers so Deaf Dogs Rock can continue to sponsor urgent deaf dogs into rescue. We appreciate each and every one of you.

Herbie – Speak St. Louis

In honor of our deaf red heeler Cornell who passed away last fall, we wanted to sponsor little deaf blue heeler Herbie into Speak St. Louis. Wow isn’t he just the cutest little booger? Someone is going to get a very smart and cute deaf puppy when he goes to his new home. His Deaf Dogs Rock Rocker Puppy Sponsorship will help with his vetting before he gets adopted.

Hitch – Speak St. Louis

When we were working with Speak St. Louis regarding Herbie we also learned about deaf puppy Hitch needing help. Hitch was transported on Memorial Day by some amazing Speak volunteer transport drivers to make sure he was going to be in the safe arms of rescue. Thanks to our Deaf Dogs Rock Supporters we are able to sponsor some of Hitch’s vetting costs to get him ready for adoption in the near future. Hitch is officially at Speak St. Louis Rescue in MO.

Sweet deaf Dalmatian Petra was transported from Ohio into Green Dogs Unleashed where she will go into a wonderful foster home, start her foundation training and in the future will be available for adoption through Green Dogs Unleashed. Petra is a recipient of our Deaf Dogs Rock Rocker Puppy Sponsorship Program to help with her vetting costs. Isn’t she the cutest puppy ever?

Charlie – Green Dogs Unleashed

When a woman named Chelsea reached out to Deaf Dogs Rock for help with her deaf/blind lab puppy Charlie, we were happy to help her. Chelsea had found the blind puppy Charlie in pretty bad shape. She took Charlie to the vet and the vet also confirmed that Charlie was mostly deaf and that he is Heartworm Positive. Chelsea also mentioned she had four small children all under the age of 6 and two senior dogs. Charlie was a crazy wild puppy who would knock the little kids over and the senior dogs started overly correcting Charlie. Chelsea felt it was in Charlie’s best interest to go into rescue, get some much needed training, and find a loving home without small children. We are so happy she reached out to Deaf Dogs Rock because, I knew we could help.

I forwarded all of Charlie’s information to our partner rescue here in Virginia Green Dogs Unleashed. Erika with GDU said she had an open foster who could help Charlie. I then reached out to Highway Heroes Rescue Transport because I knew they were not doing rescue transports since March to let them know this was an urgent situation since the two older dogs in the home were attacking Charlie (and with little kids around this could be a recipe for disaster). Thanks to HHRT and to GDU, they put together and emergency transport for Charlie and got him to Virginia on May 31. Also a big shout out to Chelsea for reaching out to Deaf Dogs Rock and for volunteering to drive the first two legs of Charlie’s transport.

Charlie is our 23rd DDR Rocker Puppy Recipient in one month!
