We adopted Mackenzie. Fortunately she never made it to a shelter. She was found by a good Samaritan in NW Houston, TX. She is Deaf and was found crossing one of the busiest intersections in the city of Houston. She was picked up in the Taco Cabana parking lot and taken home. The kind man that found her with no collar or tags, put fliers up all over the area where she was first discovered. Her family never showed up to claim her. The man that saved her had a professional dog walker/trainer come two times a day to walk her and start teaching her hand commands using signs. Because the man worked 80 plus hours a week, he didn’t feel he could give Mackenzie the attention she so deserved. Through a series of friends on Facebook, she found her way to us.

What a sweet girl Mackenzie is. She is unilaterally deaf as she is a white pit bull. We are so thankful she came to live with us. We’ve been working daily on hand commands. She is fitting in with our other three adopted fur-babies which are a Sheltie, a German Shepherd/Golden Retriever mix and a Wolf hybrid dog. Mackenzie has only been with us for a little over one week and already she is playing tug of war with the other dogs and  sleeping with us each night.

I am very thankful to have found the Deaf Dogs Rock website. I have read every page, story and word on this site.  You have provided some incredibly helpful information.

Thank you so very much for wanting to share Mackenzie’s story. She is truly an amazing deaf dog. We are learning much more from her than we could possibly ever teach her. I have attached several pictures of Mackenzie in her new “fur” ever home. Mackenzie is truly our angel. We can’t wait to be able to start training Mackenzie to become a certified Therapy Dog.

Oh by the way. She is playing tug o war with our 8 month old puppy Fiona in the photo below.

Thank you and Deaf Dogs Totally ROCK!
