Meet adoptable deaf 3 year old blue heeler girl Lumiya who is looking for a loving forever home with will make daily positive reinforcement sign training/socialization/enrichment a priority and always keep her safe.

From her advocate: This stunning 3-year-old blue heeler Lumiya is sweet, spunky, and smart as a whip. Deaf but beautifully in tune with her people, Lumiya is quickly learning hand signals and already knows “sit” , “come”, “stay”, “off”, and “kennel up”. She thrives with structure, affection, and clear communication.

Lumiya adores being close to her humans but spends most of her waking hours exploring the yard or playing with the resident Heelers. She’s crate trained and sleeps peacefully through the night. Her house training is coming along well, and she’s making great strides.

In her foster home, Lumiya gets along with both large and small dogs and enjoys romping around the yard with her heeler friends. She’s all about the chase and loves joining in the fun.

She’s been respectful with indoor cats and shows curiosity outdoors, so an attentive home will help her continue on the right path. Lumiya walks well on leash and enjoys taking in the world with her nose, especially when out on an adventure. She will need continued work on her leash and obedience skills using positive training methods.

Affectionate and full of energy, Lumiya is looking for an active family who can offer her a secure yard, a consistent routine, and lots of companionship. Lumiya is ready to give her whole heart.

At Green Dogs Unleashed (GDU), we are dedicated to ensuring the successful placement of our dogs in loving, permanent homes. Over the years, we have seen an increasing number of returns due to behavioral issues that could have been prevented with the right support. A significant percentage of these returns involve out-of-area clients or those who have not completed training with GDU. To address this, positive reinforcement training with Green Dogs Unleashed is required as a condition for all adoptions.

Preference for this dog will be given to adopters who commit to signing up for and completing our six-week Canine 101 training class in person at our headquarters in Troy, VA. Secondary consideration will be given to a limited number of out-of-area adopters who agree to complete one private lesson with GDU, either in person or virtually, and attend a pre-approved positive reinforcement training class in their area.

If you want to be considered for adoption to be Lumiya’s new family, the first step would be to complete filling out a GDU Adoption Application by clicking here.
