Meet adoptable deaf 3 year old Lucy who is looking for a loving forever home with someone who will cherish her and always keep her safe.
From her current caregiver: This dog that we are calling Lucy (because she was so elusive) and she has quite a story.
Description: medium size, white with brown spots
Lucy’s story:
She was seen running loose in early March in 4 neighborhoods in Northwest Houston for 3 weeks before she was finally caught. There was quite an army on social media tracking her as she moved around. We finally were able to keep her coming back to 2 houses to eat and eventually she trusted us enough to eat out of our hand, but would not let us pet her just yet. We eventually lured her into a backyard with hot dogs and within 10 minutes had a leash on her and was petting her. She finally felt safe.
We quickly realized by actions and non-reaction to other noises that she was deaf.
She had no collar or tags and we had her scanned – no chip. We put up signs and posted on social media, but no luck finding the owner.
Hearing impaired:
She is very smart and recognizes some of the signs we have tried with her to communicate.
Based on the way she became so comfortable so quickly, we feel she was definitely an inside dog and cared for. She did not have fleas, worms or heartworms and she is spayed.
We had her checked out by a vet who said she appeared to be in very good health. She is up to date on vaccines and now microchipped.
Some tidbits about Lucy that we have learned:
The veterinarian believes Lucy is around three years old. She looks to be an Australian Shepherd mix. She is small at around 30 pounds of pure joy. Lucy is very gentle, she is house trained, she is calm inside, low energy and she loves to go for walks. She also likes to lay on the couch and have her belly rubbed. She does prefer to be inside enjoying the company of her humans but she also loves to go for walks. She loves chasing a ball in the back yard and occasionally trying to chase a squirrel.
From Lucy:
I am sharing a home with another dog currently, but we both like to be in control – so that means we get a bit vocal sometimes. I prefer to be the lead dog and maybe even to be the only dog, but I can share space and attention, especially if the other dog is submissive – we would get along great! (Some of this may be due to her hearing issues – may be able to retrain)
I love to go on walks and am very calm inside the house. I am house trained and crate/playpen trained but prefer to be on the couch with someone. I sleep and lie around a lot. I don’t think I would like dog parks because of not being able to hear you call me and I get a bit surprised if things sneak up on me.
Since we cannot locate my owner, I am in need of a home that would like a loyal companion with love to give and who will love me back.
