Meet adoptable deaf 4 year old Louie who is looking for a loving forever home We adopted Louie as a 13 week old rescue from Aruba. He is deaf and all white so Louie and the hot Aruba sun didn’t mix. He came to us in Maryland and he has been a sweet heart and my best boy from day 1. He joined our family with 2 other dogs and has always been in a multiple dog household. Louie loves being outside, he loves walking, loves playing with other dogs and just running and chasing anything! Louie does very well with potty training, sit, stay and paw. He is not allowed on furniture and he listens to that rule very well and has been easily trainable. Louie is also very food motivated and loves treats of all kinds. Louie does great at the vet and at the groomer. He has been boarded at facilities when we go away and he is loved by everyone and always gets great report cards. He also plays well with other dogs in off leash situations. We also have multiple house sitters who come stay with him and they love him as much as we do.
About a year ago we noticed Louie had some reactive behaviors so we visited our vet and then a behavior therapist. Louie was diagnosed with anxiety so he takes Prozac once a day. This has helped a lot with overall fear and anxiety. He is mostly reactive with his food. We feed him alone and away from other dogs and he does very well in that environment. We do not offer him food from the table or feed him near people where he feels his food is threatened. He has nipped at dogs when he feels they are trying to eat his food. He has no problems sharing toys or dog beds or water. Just food.
Due to his reactivity around food Louie does very well around adults or older children who understand giving him the space he needs when eating. He has never had issues with guests or visitors and again does very well in boarding facilities and with our house sitters. He has two adorable stuffed animals that he treats as his babies. He carries them everywhere he goes and often sleeps with them at night. As soon as someone comes to visit the house he runs to get his babies to show them and play!
Louie has brought so much joy to our lives in the last 4 years. It has been the hardest thing to realize that at this time in our lives we are not able to offer Louie everything he deserves and accommodate his needs as we now have a growing family. Louie needs to be in a home with no small children. He has never been aggressive towards a child and he is very interested in and has been kind to children in our experience. We have felt in some situations he has become fearful of small children who are his size. He does not seem to like erratic movements that toddlers and babies do – so we simply choose to not put him in situations around children. We recently found out we are expecting a baby and we do not know if Louie would do well in an environment with small children around all the time. In all fairness to him, we would never want to put him in a situation where he would have to live in fear or stress.
Louie has been an excellent dog and we love him very much. He is very connected and loving of people. He bonds easily and just loves being around people. If we were not starting a family – he would be the perfect pet for us. Louie will be an excellent companion for someone who does not live with small children. He will be such a wonderful addition to someone’s family as he is truly such a happy and sweet boy!
