Laurie Metzger is the Dog Foster Intake Coordinator for All Paws Rescue in St Charles, Missouri. She is the kind of Rescue Warrior Woman most rescues dream about recruiting because she is a dedicated and loyal volunteer who is not afraid of hard work. All Paws Rescue is a Foster based rescue which means they have about 30-40 foster homes with dogs and cats coming in and going out to new homes. There is no shelter so in order for All Paws Rescue to rescue a dog there must be a foster home available and it takes a lot of time and effort coordinating everyone so things run smoothly. It is Laurie’s job to match the foster dogs with the right foster homes to set each dog up for success. Her job with All Paws Rescue is on a volunteer basis and Laurie also has a full time job. She lives and breaths rescue. It is safe to say Laurie is one of those “crazy dog ladies” in rescue.

Because many of the dogs that come into rescue have no known history by the organization who takes them in,  many of the dogs start at Laurie’s house to be evaluated first so she knows which foster home would be the best fit for the dog. If there are dogs with issues they will usually  end up at Laurie’s home so she can work with them to overcome any challenges they are having. Laurie starts their training as soon as they get settled in her home. She does training for obedience, agility, normal house training, confidence boosting exercises, everyday manners training as well as fun doggy play groups.

Laurie is also a Rescue Blogger with her blog Dog Foster Mom. You can keep up with her foster dogs on Dog Foster Mom’s FB page by clicking here.

Laurie also has deaf resident rescue dog Ziggy who Laurie currently has in training for Search and Rescue through CSARA. Laurie is also a certified dog trainer and she has a weakness for Deaf dogs. On many occasions Deaf Dogs Rock has sent her an urgent rescue plea for a deaf dog in the Midwest and within 24 hours she has the rescue plan in place. She is a ROCK STAR!

Laurie had been one of our awesome volunteers helping to keep our Adoptable Deaf Dog listings up to date. Deaf Dogs Rock is so blessed to have Laurie in our tribe. With more rescue warriors like Laurie and All Paws Rescue, there is still HOPE in this world.

Laurie also has an amazing tribe of rescue warriors she works with every single day.

From Laurie: I wouldn’t be able to rescue if not for the support of  Bev Kreinbrook who keeps me sane and constantly helps me out, and for Lynsey Fuegner who is the real dog trainer! I also couldn’t do it without amazing people who are willing to adopt a deaf dog – people like Jen Lemen, Shannon Willer Gore, Trisha Tinker, Vicky Darnell, Sarah Anderson Schiffer and so many more. They are the reason I am able to play my small part in rescuing deaf dogs! I have to thank deaf dog Ziggy the Adoptable Deaf Dog because according to him he has taught me everything I needed to know about living with and training deaf dogs.
