Seriously if my deaf dog Nitro and I see one more set of balls dangling from another dog at the dog park I think I will scream. When Nitro and I go to the dog park there are always at least three to four dogs running around humping every dog in the park. Not only does this display of domination cause problems, but it’s just not good manners by the dog or the dog’s owners (after all real men and women neuter their dogs, right?). So as you can imagine, I was totally thrilled to see Katherine Heigl’s new “I hate balls” campaign launched this month for the Jason Debus Heigl Foundation. She went as far as shooting a funny video to go along with her fundraising efforts for the spay/neutering of pets.  Although many of our Deaf Dogs Rock Community Members (male) might not see the humor in this video, I think our ladies will get a big kick out of the video’s content.  ~ Christina Deaf Dogs (with no balls) Rock!

Katherine Heigl Launches The “I Hate Balls” Campaign

Today, Katherine Heigl launches an innovative and unconventional campaign focused on promoting spay/neuter of pets, to help save the lives of millions of companion animals. The multi-media initiative kicks off with the launch of a new website IHateBalls.com, that features an original Public Service Announcement starring Katherine Heigl and produced by Funny or Die, the leading comedy video website founded by Will Ferrell and Adam McKay’s production company, Gary Sanchez Productions. The video will debut simultaneously on FunnyorDie.com and IHateBalls.com.

The video also sets the tone for the campaign – a funny take on a very serious issue – and features not only Katherine Heigl and some four-legged friends, but a cameo by her husband, musician Josh Kelley. At the witty IHateBalls.com web site which hosts the video, visitors are offered a number of opportunities to support the campaign, promote the message, raise awareness and get involved.

Annually more than 5 million pets are killed in shelters across the United States. Spay/neuter is the most effective method of helping to reduce that number to zero. A simple surgical procedure will eliminate the possibility of unwanted litters of companion animals, who are then subsequently abandoned at shelters and euthanized when homes can not be found for them.

Katherine is passionate about pets and savvy on the difficult challenges faced by municipal animal shelters and also believes that getting the message out about spaying and neutering needs a fresh and non-traditional approach. She explained, “Launching this campaign is hopefully the type of out-of-the-box thinking we need to heighten awareness of the devastating problem and sound the alarm that we can save many lives by simply spaying/neutering pets. Hate balls, fix pets, save lives. It’s just that simple.”

At “The Chop Shop”, the IHateBalls.com virtual store, the viewer can check out cool t-shirts, hip underwear and groovy gear created by renowned artist Todd Goldman and produced by David & Goliath Tees.

All net proceeds from the sale of merchandise will be directed to the Jason Debus Heigl Foundation to fund lifesaving spay/neuter initiatives. The public can also help support the campaign by donating online at IHateBalls.com and via mobile text message giving – details of which can also be found on the web site.

Please support the efforts of the Heigl Foundation and the I Hate Balls campaign. Together we can make a difference.
