To say there are heroes among us would be an understatement. We have two lovely people who work so hard to raise funds for Deaf Dogs Rock. Meet Vern and Pat who live with 6 beautiful dogs (two are deaf) who they love and adore. They are so incredibly talented because they take old furniture, upcycle each piece and make it beautiful again so it can live another life. Vern and Pat make sure a portion of every sale goes back to help deaf dogs by donating to Deaf Dogs Rock. They donated so much to Deaf Dogs Rock in June, that all the deaf dogs you see below were sponsored by the funds they sent in. In our eyes, they are our heroes and they have also inspired Chris and I to take some time out from working on DDR and do some furniture upcycling.

According to our Deaf Dogs Rock team,  Pat, Vern, and all their dogs totally ROCK! We want to send out a huge shout out and thank you to both of them because we feel truly blessed to have such an amazing supporters like Pat and Vern! I am proud to call them our friends!

Below is our June sponsorship recaps.

Above: Vern trying to get all the pups in one photo. A sure way to do this is to hold a ball…ball…ball…ball!

Above: I love this photo of Pat with one of her deafies and wearing her “Deaf Dogs Hear With Their Hearts” t-shirt. Their dogs are gorgeous!

In May we rescued and sponsored two deaf puppies (Q-Ball and Bear) and transported them into rescue to Green Dogs Unleashed. We also offered to help with the spay surgery of the female Diamond Crystal who gave birth to QBall and Bear to make sure she doesn’t have any more litters of deaf puppies. On 6/5/17 Diamond Crystal went to the Palmetto Veterinary Medicine and Surgery to be spayed. Deaf Dogs Rock covered $125.00 of her spay surgery. As of 6/30/17 Deaf Dogs Rock has sponsored 72 deaf dogs and puppies into partner rescues across the U.S. thanks to the kindness of our amazing supporters.

6/09/17 – Fur Animals Sanctuary Milk aka Hulk

A big shout out and thank you to our friend Teri McGinnis for alerting Deaf Dogs Rock about deaf dog Milk aka Hulk who needed help so DDR jumped into gear and offered a $200 rescue sponsorship to a reputable 501c3 rescue who could pull milk, get him into foster care, get him vetted and screen potential families to see if they are a good match to be his new forever home. Thanks to Fur Animals Sanctuary who pulled Milk into their rescue.

6/10/17- Deaf Dog Rescue of America – Medical sponsorship for deaf rottie puppy Kaze

Deaf Dogs Rock did a medical sponsorship of $300 to help with his vet bills. Kaze was at the Deaf Dogs Rescue of America out in Acton CA when it was discovered from his vet that he has cerebellar ataxia. From Deaf Dog Rescue of America’s FundRazr for Kaze:

“He has shown symptoms since eight weeks of age. Our rescue can’t usually afford to accept high medical dogs. He’s here, and we have to DO something NOW!

His head bobbles, and he “prances” with his front paws. The left rear paw doesn’t always hit the ground solidly. His gait makes him clumsy, and causes him to lose his balance.

We took Kaze to see our regular vet, who recommended that he see a neurologist right away. This might be caused by an issue in his cervical spine. The vertebrae might be malformed and putting pressure on his spinal cord. Or it might be a brain stem issue.

“We’re back from the vet. Kaze was such a good boy today, despite having to miss breakfast in case he needed anesthesia. It was a long day in the car, and he was pleasant and perfect every moment of the ride. He was even cuter in the office, not scared. He’s such a happy little guy!”

Second vet visit with a specialist.

“He does not have Wobblers Syndrome. His symptoms are indicative of cerebellar ataxia. We’re not sure if it’s going to be degenerative.

We are crushed. He’s such a wonderful puppy. We were hoping his condition would be surgically correctable, and we’d have more information to what the future will hold for Kaze. We’ll continue to be positive, and explore all options to see if we can improve his condition- Kaze deserves that. He is undaunted, and we can be too.

Our next step is to see what we can do to lessen the symptoms and see if we can get him stabilized so he has good quality of life for as long as possible. We’ll be seeking holistic care.”

Clara’s been at the shelter for a very long time

We boosted Clara’s adoption listing on Facebook because she has been in the shelter for over a year. We spent $40 over two days and her adoption listing was shared more than 1100 times!  We received several emails of people who are interested in adopting her and we steered them toward the shelter contact.

Mojo

Thanks to Jules, Darren, Carley and the Great Lakes Boxer Rescue for advocating for deaf boxer Mojo and excepting him into their rescue. Thanks to Darren for helping get Mojo into rescue and also thanks to Carley for fostering Mojo. It takes a tribe of rescue warriors to help deaf dogs like Mojo not fall through the cracks and make sure he will be set up for success.

We also donated 2 bags of Merrick Grain Free dog food and a case of canned grain free Merrick to Great Lakes  Boxer Rescue to feed to their deaf dogs.

Deaf dalmatian Ernest

Thanks to Green Dogs Unleashed for excepting our Deaf Dogs Rock Rocker Puppy sponsored puppy Ernest into their amazing program. Also a big shout out to Jan who sent Ernest to GDU and was so patient with the entire process to make sure Ernest was fully vaccinated while the transport team was being put together by Highway Heroes Transport Team (HHRT).

Marzi and Alice are safe!

Meet sweet Marzipan (mama dog) and puppy Alice. Thanks to iRescue for for taking in these two deaf dogs. DDR sponsored both dogs into iRescue. The first is a deaf mama dog (who only lived outside) and the young puppy is one of her deaf pups. Now mama dog and baby will have an opportunity to live a well loved life (inside) and to be fostered, trained and adopted out to new loving families who will look after them, love them and always keep them safe.

Deaf puppy Jackson and Sonic

Also a huge thank you to Karla from iRescue for taking these two deaf puppies into iRescue. At first deaf puppy Jackson (the tan puppy) came into iRescue and then it was discovered the white puppy Sonic was also deaf so Karla took the little white puppy into iRescue. DDR sent in sponsorship on both puppies so their vetting could be done.

Treasure

When we first sawTreasure’s photo, we fell in love with her. Treasure to be one of our Deaf Dogs Rock Rocker Puppy recipients so she could be sponsored into one of our partner rescues here in Virginia. A big shout out and thank you to Green Dogs Unleashed here in Troy, VA for taking sweet deaf puppy Treasure into rescue.
