Meet adoptable deaf 1.5 year old Jester who is looking for a loving forever home with someone who will cherish him, have fun with him and continue to teach him cool new sign cues.

From his caregiver: Jester is a sweet, handsome, medium sized, active mixed-breed. He is 16 months old and 43 pounds. He is 50% Terrier, 20% Schnauzer. He has a beautiful coat, great markings mostly white and easy to care for. We rescued him at 14 weeks old and did not know he was deaf at the time. At first, we did not see his disability as a major impediment. But over time, we have learned more about his behavior and limitations.

He loves to run, play fetch, play tug-o-war, he flies like the wind when he runs and prances like a pony when he is happy. He is truly adorable. We believe he would be a great frisbee dog if he has the proper area to run and train. He lights up when he has the chance to run and play with another dog with similar temperament. We don’t have a yard where he can run or another dog for him to play with. We believe he would thrive with another dog as his best buddy. He would be most happy with a dog that also has high energy and loves to play and run with abandon. We are hoping he can find a home with room to run and a best buddy to learn from and to play with.

We believe his deafness causes him to become fearful. When he gets spooked, he will retreat to his crate. It may be unclear what triggers his fears. We find it’s best to just let him work through it with patients and kindness. He will regain his confidence by giving him time and kindness. As needed, we will feed him in his crate and just give him time to regain his confidence. We moved recently and it took him a couple of months to adjust and gain confidence.

We believe strongly that having another dog as his best buddy would help assuage his fears and allow him to become his confident self. He needs a place where he can run freely and work out his energy. We are retired and lack the proper room to run and the energy to keep up. A younger family and a young active dog would be excellent for him.

We have everything to provide for an easy transfer to a new home. We have 2 crates, one medium and one large. We also have a dog bed, toys, towels, blankets, food, treats, shampoo, comb, everything needed for him.

We believe it may be helpful to have a day with us, a new owner and hopefully their dog to meet and play with him before taking him away. He may have separation anxiety so getting acquainted may help. We could also give more details on him to help with the transition. Coming on a Saturday and leaving on a Sunday would work. We are retired so any day would work for us.
