Meet adoptable deaf Catahoula puppy Iris who is looking for a loving home with someone who will cherish her, make positive reinforcement training/socialization/enrichment a priority and always keep her safe.
From her current caregiver: We are looking for a special home for our special girl. Don’t get us wrong, we are not kicking her out – but she deserves her own family. Iris almost 9 weeks old. She is bright, impish and loves to run in the grass, and play in the water.
Iris makes it known that she is a people kind of a dog and wants to please. Iris has been BAER tested and she has marginal hearing in both ears, about 20-25% so she will need positive reinforcement sign training. The vet felt that may improve some as she continues to grow, but it will never be perfect. As she matures, she will need an experienced owner, willing to invest the time in training a special pup like Iris with sign cues. She will need room to run safely, and in a perfect world, will have an older, stable dog to hang out with. Catahoulas are a large breed with strong drives. Diminished hearing will not change that, in fact, it may heighten her ability to track and scent.
Iris adoption fee is $300 and you must live within a 200 mile radius of Carlisle PA to meet Iris in person. If you are interested please email Suzanne and she will send you a blank adoption application to fill out completely to be considered.
