Another one of our Rescue Warrior women down in Texas is Karla. She is a strong Texas Rescue warrior who I have the pleasure to work with often over the last several years. Karla is with iRescue Texas and she gets it done! She is a no none sense kind of girl who doesn’t hesitate to help a deaf/blind dog in need of rescue. She is the kind of girl you want in your tribe (or sitting next to you in a jail cell – LOL)! Karla’s special needs “heart” dog is Emmit.
From Karla with iRescue:
I’ve been rescuing and networking deaf or deaf/blind dogs for 5 years now. Emmit is my soul dog. He is a great dane/australian shepherd blend that came to me as an 8 week old deaf puppy with Parvo. After surviving Parvo, demodex mange hit him hard and shortly after surviving both of those ailments, he then lost his sight to an infection.
A year later Emmit had healed and he became adoptable but by that time it was to late because he had became a part of our family. Emmit enjoys swimming, the dog park, car rides, walks, visiting the pet store and he has learned numerous touch signals. He is exceptional at bringing scared foster dogs out of their shell by making them feel safe and at ease. We believe deaf dogs really DO rock.
