Meet adoptable deaf/vision impaired girl Helen who is looking for a very special home with someone who will lover her, not give up on her and always keep her safe. She would do well in a home with someone who is willing to do daily positive reinforcement touch training to set her up for success in her new home. A structured routine would be best for her also.

From her advocate: Helen and her sister Keller were left at the shelter as young puppies. The shelter found someone who thought they could help the puppies by adopting them. After realizing that was more difficult than they thought, the puppies were brought to a Veterinary Clinic for euthanasia. The veterinarian convinced them to surrender the puppies to the clinic. Several rescues fell through and now the puppies have been at the clinic living in the kennels for 4 months. They are approximately 12 months old. They have been spayed and fully vaccinated.

Helen is very sweet and enjoys hugs and petting. She is playful and is accustomed to wearing a harness and following you on a leash. She may have limited hearing ability, but how much is in question.

There is no indication. that she has any sight. She gets along with other dogs, but may be a little aggressive over food. Her original adopter had children, so she may do well with them. She plays well with other dogs. Interactions with cats is unknown. She does well with or without her sister. We do not feel they need to be adopted together. She has played with a ball some, but does not seem very interested in toys. She has been learning to follow through touch signals and responds well to treats for training. She is good about waiting to be let out to potty. She seems confident in going in and out of the kennels and being active in the large yard attached to the clinic.
