Deaf Dogs Rock is so fortunate to know so many amazing rescue warrior men and women throughout the United States. One such person is Jill Navary with the Bully Rescue and Advocacy Group Inc in the Richmond, VA. Jill has been working on getting a thirteen year old deaf bully who has spent his entire life on the end of a chain into a kind and loving foster home. It took her over three weeks to secure Fifty’s freedom. Can I ask all of you to share 50’s rescue story in hopes of finding him a loving family who will spoil him and let him live the rest of  his life knowing what true love really feels like?

Here is just some of Fifty’s rescue story told by Jill herself:

We recently rescued a deaf bully dog named Fifty (50) who is THIRTEEN and who had spent almost all of his years as a lawn ornament on the end of a tangled up chain. The owners were content to let him die on the end of that chain but we couldn’t let that happen. After meeting him during a recent owner support mission we worked for about three weeks securing his 50’s freedom.

Since Fifty’s release we’ve spent almost $700 on his Vet care along with expenses for his medications. His lungs are in really bad shape and after his bronchial infection clears he will probably always wheeze and have a hard time breathing. 50 has a funky limp from a broken leg that probably happened eight years ago. The previous owners never treated the injured leg and Fifty also has more lumps, bumps, and scars from his thirteen years than I can possibly count. Fifty also has a range of vision issues and while I think he could hear at one point he can’t hear anything now. Fifty is completely deaf and he only has teeth left!

Poor Fifty, God only knows what he has been through. He flinches and ducks his head when anyone approaches him to pet him. Fifty paced a lot the first few days inside but we got a thunder shirt along with some much needed TLC and now two weeks later he is not pacing anymore (or marking all over the house). Now days Fifty seems to be always smiling and is a the ultimate “velcro dog” which seems to be common with deaf dogs. Fifty is so incredibly sweet and he would be content to lounge on the sofa with “his people”.

It has been such a treat watching him learn how to play and enjoy human companionship. It’s so sad that such an amazing dog as Fifty has sat for thirteen years on the end of a chain.

The plan when we rescued him was boarding for a few weeks to give him time to adjust then move him into foster care. But his hook worms (which he’s been treated for) and his bronchial infection threw a wrench into our rescue/boarding plans. I was unable to find anyone willing to foster him with all his medical issues so he’s been with me. Right now I’ve got a very strict two dog limit where I live and I have had to send my personal dogs to boarding since Fifty was so ill.

I’m sick to death over it and miss my babies so incredibly much. They have sacrificed a lot in my years of fostering and now running a rescue but this is the ultimate sacrifice and I’m lost without my dogs. They are my everything.

After living with this amazing dog 50 for two weeks I am in love and he is SO deserving of a soft couch (and not a drab kennel). I am DESPERATE to keep him out of boarding. I am asking you and your followers if they can share 50’s story and photos to see if we can find a loving foster home for him in Virginia. Fifty can live with other foster dogs as long as they are super laid back and they are willing to take intros VERY slow. A potential foster family could possibly even rotate or keep 50 separated while the integration process happens. 50 does get very excited when he’s off leash with other dogs and sometimes it makes it very difficult for him to breathe (because of his bronchial issues). 50 is also okaywith cats and kids but we’d love to find him a nice quite foster or forever home with someone that can focus all their energy on showing him the love he’s been missing out on for 13 years.

I am grateful for any help you can provide for this old boy. Foster applications can be filled out on our website at www.braginc.org

Thank you so much.
