Meet adoptable deaf Catahoula Ember who is looking for a loving forever home with someone who will cherish her, spend lots of quality time with her and have her be the only dog.
From her current caregiver: All about Ember: Female, 2-3 years old (specific age unknown)
Physical Characteristics: Unknown breed but she looks like a Catahoula Leopard dog (mix maybe). I think she looks just like Nipper the RCA dog, who was a terrier mix. Most can agree that she has some pit bull. A dog trainer thought she may have some Catahoula. A veterinarian we took her to thought she might have some husky. She weighs 50 pounds and is a medium size dog. She’s smaller than our husky. Ember has beautiful eyes, one blue and the other half blue-half brown. She’s white with some spotting underneath her coat. She has one black spot on her side and one ear that is black. She is an adorable little potato.
Behavior: Ember is a fun loving dog. She has a very joyful personality and is always smiling. She adores people and wiggles her entire body when she greats you. She loves to cuddle and likes to be close to her humans. She enjoys naps and often willingly sleeps in her kennel during the day. She makes cute little grumble noises and loves belly rubs. She is playful and enjoys stuffed dog toys. She is great on long car rides and will just sleep. She walks well on a harness and loves to go for walks.
Challenging Behaviors: We have had Ember for 5 months. During that time she has bit our other 2 dogs on more than a few occasions. It hasn’t been a little warning snap, it’s been more than that. We have come to the conclusion that she is food aggressive and most of the bites have had something to do with food. Most bites have occurred in the evenings during dinner time, while cooking. There have been 2 occasions where she bit when food wasn’t involved. I think Ember needs to be an in an only dog family. It’s so sad because she loves our husky and they play so well together, sleep together, share toys, lie next to each other. 99% of the time she is AMAZING with our other dogs. It’s the 1% of unpredictability that we can no longer risk. She also seems to have some sort of tick where she bites at the air as if she’s trying to catch flies that aren’t there. She doesn’t do it constantly but she will do it throughout the day.
Background: We adopted Ember May 25, 2025 from the Pasadena Humane Society in Pasadena California. We purposely went to adopt a pet from that area because they had been inundated with dogs from the Eaton fire that devastated Los Angeles. The shelter had only had Ember for 10 days. She had been surrendered by her owner. The Pasadena Humane Society was told that the owner had acquired her from a neighbor who couldn’t keep her. The neighbor had acquired her from a different shelter in Los Angeles. The Pasadena Humane Society was told that she was good with children, cats, dogs, and small animals. I do have 2 rabbits and she only seems interested in eating their poop. I haven’t seen her around cats or children. The Pasadena Humane Society guessed that she’s about 3 years old. The vet I took her to think’s she’s about 2 years old.
Her adoption fee is $250 to a screened and approved home only and you should live within a 3 hour drive of Phoenix AZ to be considered for adoption. If you are interested in learning more about Ember, please email Jessica at: jlleister0120@gmail.com
