Echo Shows The Local Community How Much A Deaf Dog Can Rock

by Sandy McMurtry – World Languages and Culture – Southeastern Louisiana University.

Our sweet deaf dog Echo shows our local community how much special needs/deaf dogs rock by visiting local Youth and Pets Club.

On April 9, 2024 our deaf dog Echo and I visited the Youth and Pets Club at a local middle school in Mandeville, LA to spread joy and awareness about deaf dogs.
Our sweet Echo was adopted as a puppy from a humane society adoption event at a local Subaru Dealership.
All of Echo’s hearing siblings had already been adopted and she was the only pup still looking for a loving forever home with someone who would cherish her and always keep her safe.
When we met her, we knew in our hearts that our family could  provide her with a safe and wonderful full life. She is now 6 years old, and is one of the sweetest, most well-behaved dogs we’ve ever had.

Echo was trained just like a hearing dog at a group positive reinforcement puppy training class. She loves to learn new sign cues and enjoys the company of other dogs and people.

She lives a very full life on our farm, she loves to go on fun adventures in the car and one of her favorite things to do is snuggle with her human family and friends.
Her best friend is our Great Dane, Uma and they have so much fun together.

Echo has a wonderful life and she certainly has made our hearts  and life full of joy.
