Meet adoptable deaf two year old Donco who is looking for a loving forever home with someone who will cherish him, become his new best friend and always keep him safe.
Update 4/17/25:
From his advocate: Donco was brought into Dekalb County Animal Services as a stray the first week of February with a red “deaf dog” collar on. Nobody came looking for him.
He quickly became a volunteer favorite, as his happy demeanor will steal you heart. He loves going on walks, playing fetch, and being around his people. He might be a Velcro dog.
Our family brought him home for a medically recovery short term foster. He had an eye surgery as he also has a genetic condition where his lower eyelashes grow inward. He has been cleared from recovery at this time.
In the eleven days we have had him we have learned that he just needs a person to trust that can show him the world doesn’t have to be scary without sound.
He is SMART. He knows the command “sit” with a fist in the air. Good boy is a thumbs up— his wiggly booty suggests he understand that’s what it means.
We’ve been working on crate and potty training. He hasn’t pooped in the house in over a week! We are still working on the peeing piece to potty training.
He is easy to walk on a leash but he pulls when he sees a new person or is startled. In my opinion, it’s a manageable pull.
He has been dog-assessed at the shelter and done well- he goes to playgroup often and has a blast!
We have started cat-testing him and think he is definitely cat possible. Two interactions on leash and one off and he has shown no aggression, occasional curiosity.
Please consider adopting Donco and once you earn his trust he will be your companion for life!
