Meet adoptable deaf dog Diesel who is looking for a loving forever home with someone who will be his best friend, someone who will cherish him and always keep him safel.
From his advocate: Diesel is an older, deaf pit bull and an absolute sweetheart. Despite his strong looks, he’s a gentle, cozy love bug who just wants to nap, snuggle under blankets, and quietly be by your side. He loves resting his head on you and will look into your eyes in a way that completely melts your heart.
While Diesel is deaf, it hasn’t slowed him down at all. He responds well to hand gestures and body language. He is house trained and has been doing well with crate training and being on leash during walks. He can get very vocal on walks and will bark at other dogs and people, likely because he can’t hear them (or even hear how loud his own bark is).
Diesel would do best as the only dog in a calm home with a consistent environment/routine. He needs someone willing to meet his needs with patience and care. We don’t know his exact age, but based on his energy and movement, he seems to be older. He came to me with some irritated skin allergies, but he’s been great about taking his allergy medicine with his food and letting me rub lotion on him.
Diesel was unfortunately returned to the shelter after being adopted for a short period of time. That family/environment wasn’t the right fit for him, but I still believe the right one is out there. I had the opportunity to foster Diesel before his adoption after a recent NJ snowstorm, when his shelter — Associated Humane Society Newark, NJ — was badly damaged and urgently needed temporary fosters. While I wish I could foster him again, I have upcoming travel and commitments that make it impossible right now.
Diesel has so much love to give, and it breaks my heart thinking of him being back at the shelter. I know his person is out there. He just needs someone willing to see how special he truly is.
