Meet our Deaf Dogs Rock Star of The Week Diego!

Update 1/04/23: Diego has been at the shelter for over 164 days and either needs a loving adopter or a rescue to pull him.

From the shelter advocate:

Diego

He was brought into the shelter as a stray 164 days ago. Diego is a 1 year old Pit-Bull. We found out during his stray hold, he was sleeping quite soundly with all the commotion going on. I personally walked in his kennel while he was sleeping and spoke to him and he didn’t wake up. I took a leash and tapped his nose with it and within an instant he woke up! He is a calm pup in his kennel but out in the yard, he is go, go, go! We have tried to test him with 4 dogs and all but one did not react badly toward how he introduced himself. Upon the dog intros, Diego would slink up to the dog almost like he is stalking them and he would continue to stare even when being pulled out of the yard, which made the other dogs and employees uncomfortable. I made my last attempt to introduce him with a nervous stray that does well with all dogs, and they were the best of friends. I believe with the right personality and introduction, he can be in a home with another dog! We recently just had playgroup with him and learned that he would prefer to be the dominant dog due to lack of manner. Other than that he played with 5 other dogs with no problems. We also learned that Diego knows hand signals for commands! He knows sit, down and paw!

Please let me know as soon as possible if you are able to help! The clock is ticking for these guys and they deserve the world! Their photos are attached to this email as well. You are more than welcome to call my cell phone 636-362-9256 for a quicker response

Meet adoptable deaf, one year old Diego who is looking for a loving forever home with someone who will cherish him, teach him new things, he would be best in a home with older children and be the only dog.

I am in search of a family that is willing to be my ears for life!
To speak to me in a language I understand. My name is Diego , I am a one year old Pit-Bull puppy that was found as a stray. I am a very happy go lucky boy, with tons and tons of energy! The amount of energy I have, may scare little children. I really don’t want to be scary, I want to be a friend! So please only adopt me if you have children over the age of 10. I don’t know how to properly interact with other dogs due to the lack of hearing I have. So it may be best if I was your only buddy, because with other canines around my stare and posture make them feel uncomfortable and react negatively towards me.
