We had a great week last week because a young lady named Gina reached out to us here at Deaf Dogs Rock and she had a 12 week old and a 8 week old puppy she needed to get into a rescue. She asked if there was any way we could sponsor them into a reputable rescue so we agreed to sponsor them into Angels of Assisi Rescue here in Roanoke. We already had a couple looking for a 8 – 12 week old deaf puppy so the female American Bulldog mix puppy named Lyric seemed like she would be a great match for Shelly and Stacy.

The puppies where located 2 hours South of Atlanta Georgia so I contacted transport coordinator Kim Kleppell to see if she could help us out and put a transport team together. I would be able to do the last leg of the transport and my friend Sharon agreed to also help out with one leg of the transport. Kim agreed to help us but as luck would have it Kim knew a wonderful woman named Sandra who happened to be driving all the way from Georgia to PA on Thursday and Friday. Sandra was on her way to PA to judge a dog trial so she offered to drive both female puppies all the way to Salem VA. I was so excited because I knew it would be much less stressful for the puppies not to be changing cars and people every hour in a half.
Sandra met me Thursday night at 9:30pm in Salem with two of the cutest puppies. A big shout out to Sandra for making the transport for the two rescue puppies as stress free as possible. After I loaded up both puppies (Cher aka Madison and Lyric), I headed downtown to meet Bobbie Patterson Wiggins at Angels of Assisi rescue in Roanoke VA. On the way downtown Cher was crying so everytime she started crying I made loud bird sounds. Every time I made a loud bird sound Cher would stop crying so I know right then she could hear. Sometimes we get puppies and we are told they are deaf and when they get here we discover they can hear. Sometimes they are on medication to clear up an ear infection and the medication clears up the infection as well as restoring the pups hearing so I knew she would be much easier to place because she can hear.
Once I got both girls to Angels of Assisi Rescue in Roanoke, Bobbie and I got their kennels ready and put them both to bed. Thanks to Angels of Assisi, Lisa O’neal and my partner in crime Bobbie Patterson Wiggins for agreeing to make room for these two sweet hearts! Both Bobbie and Lisa give our mission of saving deaf dogs so much support that I will be forever grateful for their kindness and consideration.
In the mean time, I had texted Shelly and Stacy a photo of Lyric and they were instantly smitten when they saw her big old sweet face and her huge paws! So much so, they came down to Angels of Assisi Rescue the following day to meet Lyric. On Saturday they took Lyric to “Train To Adopt” class at Field of Dreams Training Center and then home for introductions to their two older dogs. They decided to do a sleep over with Lyric to see how it would go. By Sunday Lyric’s adoption was a done deal. Both Stacy and Shelly were in love. Both of these ladies could not believe how laid back, sweet and smart Lyric is. What a wonderful ending to a rescue!

As for Cher (aka Madison), the 8 week old puppy, a couple who had just moved here to Roanoke, Virginia all the way from Norfolk VA fell in love with Cher the first time they laid eyes on her. They had the entire summer off to commit to training Cher (the woman is a teacher) and they were both excited to get started.

We transported the puppies here on Thursday and by Sunday both little girls had been adopted. I love happy endings, don’t you?
Thanks to the support we get from our Deaf Dogs Rock community we can sponsor deaf dogs and puppies into rescue. Thank you, thank you, thank you!
