Deaf Dogs was in a position to help a sweet dog named Ray from Wythe County, Virginia. I received a message from my friend Lara Newberry who saves dogs from the Wythe County Shelter. She is affiliated with the Wythe-Bland Animal Welfare League (WBAWL). When Lara contacted me she said they had pulled a beautiful deaf bully and had it in boarding and desperately needed a rescue. I contacted Angels of Assisi here in Roanoke and asked them if they could make room for Ray.
Deaf Dogs Rock paid the sponsorship fees to Angels (along with the sponsorship of two deaf Dogo puppies) so Ray would have somewhere to go. Lara was kind enough to transport Ray here to Roanoke, Virginia. The following day I went and hooked Ray up to a leash and we started our “watch me” training and I started also working on loose leash walking while I was walking him down town. He didn’t respond to noise the first time I had him on a walk but when I decided to take him in the meet and greet room at Angels I got a chance to test his hearing. He was not deaf but he did have “selective hearing” or maybe he could only hear in one ear. Never the less we made a commitment to sponsor him and work with him.
Ray is such a stunning dog that in no time at all the adoption applications started coming in. He found a wonderful forever home and I am so glad we stepped up to sponsor him and offer him shelter. It is because of our awesome Deaf Dogs Rock followers that we can continue to rescue and save one dog at a time. According to my deaf dogs Nitro, Bud and myself, our Deaf Dogs Rock supporters totally Rock!
