Chris and I are very fortunate to have good relationships with our local rescues and shelters so when a deaf dog or puppy comes into a local shelter, we can offer help in the form of medical sponsorship, training advice and also network to get the puppies into a reputable rescues who specializes in deaf dogs.

We recently worked with The Franklin County Humane Society and Angels of Assisi Rescue to get several Deaf puppies transferred and transported to Green Dogs Unleashed Rescue in Troy Virginia. Green Dogs Unleashed (GDU) specializes in training and placing deaf and visually impaired puppies/dogs into experienced homes and they also put much needed deaf dog foundation training on the dogs who enter into their rescue to give the dogs a great start with a strong training foundation to build upon. Sometimes a special needs rescue is the best choice to take deaf shelter dogs/puppies not only for the advanced training but because their adoption standards have special requirements to make sure the deaf dog goes to a  great home where the dog will learn, grow, and remain safe at all times.

Because of your support Deaf Dogs Rock is able to do much needed rescue transports (just about every other weekend) to get the pups to their destination safely.

Below are photos of our last transport of four deaf Great Pyrenees mix puppies coming from the Franklin County Humane Society to GDU. A big shout out to the Lang Family for always being available to help us with transports. Also a big shout out to The Franklin County Humane Society for always putting the “special needs” puppies first and always having their best interests at heart.

Awesome transport teams (from L to R): – Erika Lang, David Lang, Faith Lang, Bekah Lang and Bobbie Patterson Wiggins

The fifth puppy on our transport was Gabriel a black lab mix puppy who was at Angels of Assisi for a few weeks and they thought it would be in the puppy’s best interests to get him started on some formal training at GDU and also get him into an experienced foster home through GDU. By getting the puppies into foster homes right away, they are properly socialized, crate trained, house trained, and receive much needed consistent positive reinforcement training every day so they will have a strong training foundation before they go to their new homes. A big thanks to Bobbie Patterson Wiggins with Angels of Assisi for always spending so much time with the deaf puppies who come in to rescue and for also meeting me with Gabriel so he could catch a ride on this transport to GDU.

I would also like to thank Erika Renee at GDU for always stepping up and taking deaf puppies for us from the Roanoke Valley. When you donate to us, we can transport or sponsor puppies that go to GDU and in turn she can do her job and make sure they are fostered, trained, and adopted.
