Deaf dog inspires CDOT leaders – By John La Porte – Fort Morgan Times Editor
This is trust. This is love. This is what you guys need to have as a team.”
So said Eric Melvin as he and Anglyne the Amazing Deaf Cattle Dog put on a motivational presentation during a Colorado Department of Transportation workshop for lead workers in Brush Thursday.
He was referring to how Angelyne never takes her eyes off him. The duo was putting on its 243rd show and appeared before almost 15,000 people last year. Angelyne recently made the cover of Mile High Dog magazine.
The CDOT workers also heard presentations on such topis as safety and procedures for reporting injuries and following up to ensure continuing pay and benefits.

“You are all very important people,” Melvin told the group, pointing out that they were responsible for the safety and convenience of everyone who uses the roads in Colorado. “You guys have enormous weight on your shoulders.”
One of the pair‚s routines involved four people holding hula hoops so Angelyne could leap through them, a demonstration, Melvin said, of teamwork.
“I think the most important part of this is that we’re a team. You guys are a team,” he stated.
“Nothing is possible with communication, hard work and compassion,” Melvin declared.
Melvin had grown up around Australian cattle dogs and when he decided to get one of his own in 2005, Angelyne came up to him and tapped his knee with her nose. He decided she was the one he wanted.
