It took almost a month to get a little girl Harley Quinn into rescue at Green Dogs Unleashed Rescue in Troy, VA. What some people don’t realize is all of us are volunteers in rescue and sometimes it can take weeks (especially if it is around the Holidays) to line up people to do rescue dog evaluations, transports, health checks ect. We love what we do but we also have many other responsibilities to our families and work. We have to squeeze in enough time to do rescue which includes hours and hours of communications through email, phone, text and travel. Even though the person who had Harley was doing a wonderful thing by fostering her, she did lose her patience with the whole rescue process (which happens from time to time) and I think it was Erika that stepped up right away to take control of an delicate situation.

Sometimes in rescue it can take longer for “owner surrenders” because in most cases they are not as urgent as a deaf dog in a kill shelter. Rescues are all at the mercy of other kind hearted people in other cities to help with the rescue/evaluation process when they can find the time. With that being said, Deaf Dogs Rock wants to recognize the challenges these tough situations can be at times and send out a huge THANK YOU to  Erika Renee and her volunteer Renee who took a great deal of their time during the holidays to make sure Harley got safely into rescue. Without their level of rescue commitment, there very well could be as many as 300 deaf and deaf/blind dogs that would not make it into a safe harbor but instead be put to sleep in shelters across the country. They are the true meaning of Rescue Warrior Women.

As soon as we saw Harley Quinn’s photo this morning we were beyond thrilled to know she had finally made her way to Green Dogs Unleashed. Deaf Dogs Rock has sent in Harley’s sponsorship donation so some of her costs will be covered.
