Meet adoptable deaf and blind 7 year old Australian Shepherd Dasher who is looking for a loving forever home with someone who will cherish him and always keep him safe.

From his rescue advocate;

We are looking for a patient adopter who lives in a calmer environment
Dasher would love to live with a playmate to become his new best friend and to wrestle with. A secure fenced in yard is a must to keep Dasher safe at all times.

Dasher is an incredibly sweet 7 year old boy weighing 37lbs. He is a very happy boy who loves everyone he meets. He loves cuddling and getting affection from everyone. Anyone who has met him has fallen in love with how sweet and affectionate he is. He has a blast wrestling with other dogs and is always down to play! He is low-medium energy who just wants someone to hangout with.

He is completely deaf and blind, but is able to get around and live a pretty normal life. He is able to quickly learn the layout of a house and yard to navigate around. He is also able to find you pretty easily by scent. He is able to follow you around very well whether walking around the yard or doing chores around the house. He does okay on walks or going out and about but he prefers what he knows and getting energy out through wrestling (he can’t keep up with chase). He just wants to be with people and loves cuddling up next to you on the couch or in bed.

He is on an anxiety medication which has seemed to help him tremendously. Prior to coming into rescue he was never socialized or trained, so new things or a lot of activity can make him anxious. He is able to acclimate to new things much better and we have found ways to calm him when he gets worked up or stressed.
When he came into rescue he had flea dermatitis, solar dermatitis on his nose, horrible teeth, was very underweight, and suffering from allergies. He has since put on the weight he needed, cleared up his skin and is on a daily allergy medication, healed his nose, and is getting his teeth cleaned. His nose is still damaged from years living outside in the sun untreated, but with some nose balm and sunscreen as needed he hasn’t had any further issues. His anxiety and allergy medications are around $47 per month.

He has caught on very quickly to touch commands, is house trained, and crate trained. He does fine left out in the house when no one is home and usually just puts himself to bed and sleeps until you are back home. He’s friendly with all dogs he’s met this far and leaves cats alone. He just needs an adopter who is patient and understanding of his limitations, another pup to play with, and an enclosed yard so that he is able to be off leash. He can be vocal when playing or anxious, so would not be ideal for an apartment.

Dasher is neutered, up to date on vaccinations, microchipped, Heartworm negative and on monthly Heartworm prevention. Dasher is being fostered in the Dallas area and will require the adopter to travel to him. His adoption fee is $150 and you can complete an adoption application online at LoneStarAussieRescue.org/adopt. If you already have an application on file with us, you can send us a PM or email saying you are interested in Dasher.

Please note: All our dogs are adopted as inside pets and family members only and all current or past pets in the home must have proof of being kept up to date on vaccinations and Heartworm prevention – NO EXCEPTIONS!
