Update 7/9/18 – Clara has been adopted!

Update December 04, 2017 from the shelter: Wow. Talk about the resiliency and awesomeness of dogs. This is Clara. Clara has truly been a hard luck story. Clara first entered our shelter back in December of 2016 as a 6-8 month old puppy. We had impounded her (that is removed her from a bad situation) for her welfare. We found her to be a happy, cheerful puppy who happened to be deaf.

Clara spent seven months in our shelter, until she was finally, happily, adopted in July. Her new mom had already adopted our sweet dog, Bane (also available for adoption again), and returned for Clara to give her a loving forever home. Then, tragedy struck when Clara and Bain’s human mommy suddenly, unexpectedly, died landed Clara and Bain in the Baltimore County shelter. (to learn more about Bain, please click here). The county shelter contacted Carolina Humane, and our team went to bring them back immediately. We are currently looking for yet one more loving home for Clara and Bane with someone who will cherish each of them (together or separately). Clara is just about the happiest, exuberant, friendly, cheerful, playful, loving and sweetest deaf dog you will ever meet in this lifetime. She adores people and loves everyone she meets.

When people first meet Clara, they usually notice her high energy level and exuberance. But, who can blame her? She is now about 2 years old and has spent most of her life in a shelter. What speaks volumes for her solid temperament is the fact that she has maintained her sunny personality and outlook on life. Once our team has her out of her kennel for a while, she settles right down and comes lean on her handler’s legs and sit on their feet. She is a true deaf velcro dog.  Clara already knows some hand signals and a deaf dog develops an increase in their other senses to compensate for their lack of hearing. Clara loves the company of other dogs and she just wants to play…play….play. She is currently located at CCHS, Ridgely, MD 410-820-1600 or info@carolinehumane.org

July 5, 2017: Meet sweet 21 month old deaf Dalmatian/bull terrier mix dog Clara who has been patiently waiting for a loving forever family. She would love to get out of the shelter into her own home and have a family to call her own that will love her, play with her and always keep her safe.

Clara was found by CCHS in poor living conditions tied to a tree with very little body fat at the age of 6 months old.

She has been available for adoption for 17 months (she was in foster care for some time). She is very sweet, very playful and Clara is a happy go lucky girl. She is good with going outside to go potty and may need a refresher course but she is very smart and she is eager to please.

She is kennel trained. Great with dogs and cats likes to chase cats but not hurt them. She has a lot of energy, and will do best with an active family. She loves playing fetch and chase. She needs attention, affection, and some training. Very good temper such a sweetheart.
