This story was sent in my Ann De Lara of Angels Camp, CA. This is her deaf dog Chuckie Woo Woo who has earned his AKC Canine Good Citizen Award and he is also passed his Therapy Dogs Incorporated Therapy Dog Test. Go Chuckie! According to my deaf dogs Nitro, Bud and myself, Chuckie and Ann totally ROCK! ~ Christina Lee –  Deaf Dogs Rock

Chuckie was born deaf. He was placed with People for Pets, a non profit organization, for adoption. I was looking for a third lab for my household. After doing a lot of research on deaf dogs, I decided to call and set up an appointment to meet Chuckie Woo Woo with my two labs. My six year old lab was a rescue that I adopted 6 months prior to Chuckie. My year old lab was purchased 10 months prior to Chuckie.

It was love at first sight so Chuckie came home with me the next day. He was 5 months old. I breed miniature horses so initially Chuckie wore a cow bell so I could tell where he was on the ranch. I enrolled him in obedience immediately. My other two labs were in obedience levels 2 & 3. All three dogs were in class at the same time. Right away, I could tell Chuckie had the personality for Therapy work. I had just registered my six year old as a therapy dog. Chuckie is trained on hand signals. He passed his Canine Good Citizen test when he was 10 months old. When Chuckie turned one year, he passed and was registered as a therapy dog with Therapy Dogs Incorporated. He has been a therapy dog for two years.

Both of my therapy dogs have visited retirement homes, extended day care for the elderly, hospitals, libraries and schools. They participate in fund raisers for the local humane societies. They also accompany me when I give speeches to groups on Therapy Dogs and their role in the community.

Chuckie has been a pleasure and one of the best adoptions I’ve made over the years.
