In late June I got an email from a nice man named Brian who had a litter of Boston Terrier puppies. He was located in Austin,Texas and he asked Deaf Dogs Rock for help. He discovered one of the pups was deaf and asked if Deaf Dogs Rock could help him find a home for “Bobo” or take him into rescue. We reached out to Green Dogs Unleashed Rescue in Troy, VA to see if they had room for this little boy.  Thanks to one of our Deaf Dogs Rock Board members Kim Rutherford, Bobo was sponsored into rescue by Kim and her husband Buddy.

Photos above: These were the first photos Brian emailed to me. My heart melted the second I saw him. Sometimes I like to text Erika a photo of a deaf puppy without text just to see her reaction. She was like “OMG who is this?”…haha!

Although 6 weeks passed before Bobo got to VA (so Bobo could get all his shots and also get a little older to be able to travel), Kim, Erika, and myself kept in contact with Brian. Erika and Kim did a great job working with Brian to make sure Bobo had all the proper shots and a current health certificate to fly.

There were also some very special people involved in getting Bowie from Austin, TX to Richmond, VA.

Every day we are amazed at how amazing and vast our little Village is. This weekend, thanks to the amazing Myra from Highway Heroes Rescue Transport (HHRT), three groups are partnering together to bring a tiny Deaf Boston Terrier from Texas to VA in the safest way possible. Via escorted air transport. HHRT, Delta Angels Rescue and Sherlocks Journey have joined forces, and little Bobo will Arrive at Richmond Airport at 9 am. What an amazing thing for these flight attendants to have volunteered for, and a major Kudos to Delta Airlines, for allowing them to “hop” flights to make it possible!

Green Dogs Unleashed Team

Our friend, supporter, and Deaf Dogs Rock Board member Kim Rutherford was so very kind and generous when she made an additional donation to cover some of Bobo’s training and she also made a separate donation to Green Dogs Unleashed to pay for Bobo’s neuter surgery. We were hoping Bobo would be adopted by Kim and her husband Buddy but they decided the time wasn’t right so Chris and I decided we would adopt Bobo now named Bowie (or BoBo for short). Even though we were not planning on adding another deaf dog to our family, the timing was right since our 15 year old deaf min pin Lexi had recently passed away.

The day I was suppose to drive to Green Dogs Unleashed in Troy, Virginia to pick up Bowie I wasn’t feeling well so Chris jumped into the Deaf Dogs Rock Transport vehicle to go get Bowie. Ever since Chris picked up our puppy Bowie has been a “daddy’s boy”!

A big shout out and THANK YOU go to the Fontenot family who fostered Bobo for a few weeks until his neuter surgery could be done. They did a GREAT JOB loving him and getting him started in his training. Thanks you, thank you, thank you!

Our first week with Bowie has been amazing. He has been here for 6 days and has not had one accident. His crate training is coming along beautifully. He walks right in his crate and goes right to sleep. He sleeps all night. He is learning when he barks we walk out of the room and when he sits and doesn’t bark we all come back in the room. When he wants our attention, he will sit, not make a peep and do a head tilt to get our attention. What more could we ask for. His “watch me” training is coming along so well. He watches every move we make. He does not bother my two senior dogs and he gravitates towards the two dogs who love to play. We feel totally blessed and want to thank everyone involved with getting hims safely to us here in Virginia.

One thing we have discovered is Bowie is super PHOTOGENIC!

Here starts our new journey with the newest member of our family and of Deaf Dogs Rock. We have decided Bowie’s new title should be “Director of CUTENESS” because he is just so stinking cute! Welcome home Bowie, welcome home!

Thanks to everyone involved for supporting Deaf Dogs Rock and also getting Bowie here to our Deaf Dogs Rock family.

According to my deaf dogs Nitro, Bud, Bowie and myself, you all totally ROCK!
