Meet Aspen: A Spirited, Lovable Catahoula Seeking a Special Forever Home
Aspen is a vibrant, unique 4-year-old spayed female Catahoula with a heart as big as her soulful, mismatched eyes. Despite being deaf, Aspen’s world is full of excitement and energy, making her a distinctive and lively companion.
Aspen’s Story:
Aspen came into my life as a bundle of energy and affection. From day one, she’s been a loyal companion, always ready for a playful game or a cozy nap. Her deafness hasn’t slowed her down one bit; in fact, it’s only added to her unique charm. Aspen navigates life with a bold and spirited approach, making her stand out in any crowd.
Quirks and Personality:
1. The Unique Communicator:
Aspen has her own special way of communicating, often involving loud barks and her impressive ability to “punch” with her paws. She’s a master at getting your attention and will let the whole neighborhood know when she needs something.
2. Homebody Happiness:
Aspen prefers the comfort of familiar surroundings. She’s happiest lounging on top of things like her dog crate, the trampoline, a hot tub, or, of course, a couch or bed. She doesn’t care for the floor and always finds a more comfortable place under shelter or indoors.
3. The Couch Cuddler:
When it’s time to snuggle or seek comfort, Aspen finds her way right between your legs, whether you’re laying, sitting, or standing. She transforms into the ultimate snuggle buddy during these quiet moments, showing her loving and affectionate nature.
4. The Escape Artist:
Aspen is an expert at finding her way into and out of typical “dog-proof” objects. She has a knack for chewing and getting into things, especially anything left near or on her outdoor kennel. From privacy fencing to dog bowls, nothing is off-limits.
5. Social Butterfly with a Rough Side:
Aspen gets along wonderfully with other dogs but needs proper introductions as her communication style can be loud and atypical. She might need human intervention to avoid being misunderstood or bullied by other dogs.
6. Semi-Crate Trained:
Aspen does okay in a crate for a few hours at most, but overnight crating usually results in a potty accident. Covering her crate with a blanket can help reduce stimulation and anxiety.
7. Needs Physical Contact and Training:
Aspen thrives on physical contact and needs a lot of training. She can be rough in character but transforms into a gentle soul when it’s time to snuggle.
8. Hunting Instincts:
Aspen has a strong hunting dog ancestry and tends to go after smaller animals of prey. She has a history of attacking small prey animals and should be supervised around smaller pets and children.
9. Whirlwind Tail:
Aspen’s tail is like a whirlwind, always in motion and full of energy. It packs a punch just like her paws, so be prepared for some lively tail wagging that can clear a coffee table in seconds!
10. Aspen Fishing:
Aspen’s favorite toy is a feathered cat toy attached to a long string and stick, like a fishing pole. We call it “fishing for Aspen” or “Aspen fishing,” and she absolutely loves it. Watching her chase and pounce with delight is a joy to behold.
What Aspen Needs:
Aspen is looking for a loving home that can match her energy and provide the attention she deserves. An adopter who understands her special needs and is willing to communicate with her in creative ways will find a devoted and loving companion in Aspen. She would do well with someone firm but kind, who can provide a secure environment and lots of mental and physical stimulation. Aspen needs to be around other larger dogs to avoid separation anxiety but might do well solo if her owner can provide a lot of attention.
