Meet adoptable deaf one year old Catahoula mix Archie who is looking for a loving forever home with someone who will cherish him, provide daily positive reinforcement training/socialization/enrichment/exercise/structure and always keep him safe.

From his rescue advocate at Pink Heart Rescue:

Name: Archie
Gender: Male
DOB: 9/8/23
Breed: Embark DNA: 82.3% Catahoula, 11.1 % Border Collie, 6.6% McNab
Disability: deaf and light sensitivity
Dogs: yes
Cats: yes
Kids: 8 years+

Socialization/training: Finally adoptable! Archie came to our care from a shelter in Texas, where he was at risk of being euthanized for being deaf and undersocialized. Him and his 3 other siblings were surrendered by their breeder, we were able to save 3 of the 4 pups. Archie is a quick learner and would easily learn new tricks/routines with his new family. So far he has not shown me any signs of aggression, rudeness or scared of anything! He is pretty outgoing and naturally curious. If you’re looking for an adventure or hiking buddy, he’d likely be your guy! He knows sit and he is doing good with boundaries coming in and out the crate and house.

Crate trained: Archie does well in the crate and does best in a size appropriate airline style crate. He is mostly quiet when crated unless he knows you just got home but will quiet down if you need a moment before getting him out. He is only ever truly loud when crated if he has to go potty ASAP!

Leash trained: Archie will need continued structured walks to continue how to walk without pulling and zig zagging everywhere but is super quick and walks well with someone who knows how to ask for a structured walk! He has also been on walks with a Rover dog walker and he did fantastic and let the walker know when he was done and ready to go back home!

Activity Level: While he definitely has a lot of energy he is manageable with walks, toys and other dog savvy dogs who like to tussle and play! I think he would excel at scent games/work and mealtimes with food puzzles or frozen kongs to help get some of his mental enrichment in for the day as he is not a big fan of the heat or hot days for walks.

Fence: Archie would do OK with a tie out, fence or walks. He has not attempted to leave the backyard which is 4ft chain link.

Behavior: Archie is.. a hugeee goofball and full of a quirky, fun personality. Even though he is deaf and cannot hear a thing he is the most vocal when greeting his people/friends and loves to chat when he is excited. Catahoula people will know this is a very vocal breed and you need to have a sense of humor to appreciate. He likes water and especially on weather appropriate days, loves to play in a pool and even try to drag it around with him. I swear he always has something in his mouth so toys available are a must! Mental enrichment is more important to Archie than physical based on his time with us!

Foster Comments: Archie needs an owner and/or family willing to look past his quirks during decompression time and committed to letting Archie get comfortable and be the good boy he is learning and molding to be. He is still super young and impressionable and would make someone a fantastic, goofy deaf guy! He is also great and even hands me his feet for nail trims. Bath time can be a little stressful for him but with a slow, calm and gentle scrub down from start to finish he does good!
