Meet adoptable, deaf, 3 year old, Husky/Boxer mix Aiden who is looking for a loving forever home with someone who will cherish him and always keep him safe.
From his advocate; Aiden is a very sweet and affectionate three-year-old neutered male weighing about 68 lbs. If you’re looking for a good buddy dog then he is your guy!
Aiden had a rough start in life – he was kept chained outside in the back yard of a desert home. When Aiden’s owners lost their home he was taken to the local high-kill shelter and put on the euthanasia list. He was rescued just in time and spent a few days with a foster before being enrolled in boarding and training. He has short bursts of energy where he likes to run around for a few minutes but is mostly satisfied to spend his time quietly observing his surroundings.
It was at the training facility that Aiden’s deafness was discovered. He then spent time learning to communicate with people through hand signals before he landed at Deaf Dogs of America. His training and education is ongoing there.
Aiden gets on very well with other dogs, large and small, and is a gentle soul who loves a good cuddle. He is a favorite of the staff at the boarding facility. Because of his size and strength and the fact that he is deaf, he may not be suitable for very young children. He has not been tested with cats but he does not seem to be very prey driven.
Most importantly, Aiden is 100% loveable!
According to his DNA test results he is a husky/boxer mix. He has the bright blue eyes of a Siberian Husky with a sprinkling of Alaskan Malamute thrown in. His body and stature are hard to define as he has 12 breeds in his DNA mix. Siberian Husky is the highest percentage at 47% with Boxer next at 25%. The remaining breeds include small percentages of terrier, companion, sporting, herding and street dogs. (The street dog is Fijian Street Dog which isn’t really a breed but is instead a broad mix of the local dog population). He is almost exclusively from medium and large dog stock with the surprising 1% Chihuahua thrown in just to make him all the more interesting!
Side note: The shelter named him Aiden, but his birth name is Zeus. My daughter calls him Odie. He doesn’t care as long as he gets lots of hugs!
Aiden’s adoption fee is $350 to a screened and approved home only. Aiden is fully vetted and has had professional training with a professional deaf dog trainer. You also must live within a 2-3 hour drive of Acton CA to be considered. If you would like to set up a meet and greet, please contact Janice at: jan.uehlein@gmail.com
