Thank you to all of our supporters who donated to Deaf Dogs Rock in the month of August 2020 to keep our mission going! The core mission of our Deaf Dogs Rock Rocker Puppy program is to set up each deaf puppy/dog for success by sending them into a experienced special needs rescue where they go into a experienced deaf dog foster home that is committed to training and socializing each deaf dog that comes into their care. This way each foster advocate gets the opportunity to live with the deaf dog, work with the deaf dog, and accurately evaluate each deaf dog/puppy to make sure to match the dog with the right home once the adoption screening process starts.
Deaf Dogs Rock works with shelters, rescues, private individual and breeders to help get each deaf puppy into our Rocker Puppy program to make sure each dog gets the individual training, socialization, and love to grow up to become a cherished member of society. Deaf Dogs Rock is a judgement free zone and our number one priority will always be to help deaf dogs and puppies get a fresh start and a chance at a great life.
When screening potential homes for a deaf dog/puppy, each partner rescue has a specific set of guidelines to follow like checking all references, talking to the applicant’s veterinarian and performing a thorough home visit to make sure each home is a safe place for a deaf or deaf/blind dog. This is why our Deaf Dogs Rock Rocker Puppy is so important to set each deaf pup up for a successful happy life in their new home. Our Rocker Puppy program financially sponsors each deaf dog/puppy so the dogs can be spay/neutered before they are adopted to a new family. We only work with rescue partners and advocacy organizations who are committed in making sure each deaf pup is spay/neutered before being placed in a new home.
Even though donations slowed way down in mid March, April and May, due to the Coronavirus, that did not stop us from continuing to sponsor deaf dogs in need. Our amazing Deaf Dogs Rock community sponsored 17 deaf dogs/puppies in August, 2020 which is a huge accomplishment considering we are in the middle of a Pandemic. Thanks to the financial support of our loyal Deaf Dogs Rock community, we can continue to help deaf dogs in need. So far since our start of our Deaf Dogs Rock Rocker Puppy sponsorship program we have sponsored 793 deaf dogs (as of 8/31/20).
This year of 2020, our Deaf Dogs Rock community has sponsored 125 deaf dogs/pups into the safe arms of rescue. We could not do it without your on going support!
Thank you, thank you, thank you! ~ Christina Lee
When our friends at Speak For The Unspoken Ohio reached out to us asking for help for three deaf Double Merle pups in Michigan, we were happy to help. They will be in foster care for a couple of weeks so they can be vaccinated before they make their trip to Ohio. Thanks ot the Rutgers Family for fostering them in Michigan until they can make their way to Ohio.
From Speak For The Unspoken Rescue:
Speak would like to welcome the Princess Bride crew to rescue, Westley, Inigo Montoya and Princess Buttercup! They are currently being fostered in Michigan with the Rutgers family and the help of Alumni double merles Phoebe and Ollie (You can barely see them hiding in the background!!)
We would like to thank Deaf Dogs Rock for sponsoring these little nuggets of joy. All three pups are deaf, and Westley is blind and deaf. They are NOT yet available for adoption; these babies have been through a lot and are still only 7 weeks old!!!
Mila – White Kisses Great Dane Rescue
Deaf Dogs Rock was happy to send in a Rocker Puppy/Medical sponsorship into White Kisses Great Dane Rescue for deaf dane Mila because she was in pretty bad shape.
From White Kisses Great Dane Rescue: Mila had a hard existence up to this point. She came to us incredibly emaciated and with issues trusting humans. We are working towards making her comfortable around her foster as well as get proper weight on her. We are providing Mila the vet care she needs along with a special diet in order to gain weight. We are working closely with our vet to unsure she has a full checkup and is on the right path to recovery. Mila will be fully vetted, vaccinated and microchipped prior to adoption. Despite her shyness, Mila is a very sweet girl that gets along with other dogs. We know that from this point on Mila will know nothing but love like she deserves.
Greta – Speak St. Louis – Medical Sponsorship
Deaf Dogs Rock did a Rocker Puppy sponsorship when Greta came into Speak St. Louis rescue but she needs at least $2200 worth of help from the vet including a MRI so we did an additional $300 medical sponsorship to help with her Go Fund Me Campaign.
From Speak’s Go Fund Me Campaign page about Greta: On the day of transport, we learned Greta sometimes falls over because she was dropped as a puppy. As soon as we met her, we learned there has to be much more to Greta’s story than we will ever know. She suffered horrible physical trauma, enough so, that two different veterinarians who examined her felt she has brain damage. She has multiple deep tissue scars on her head and nose, a suspected broken rib, and her jaw has been displaced. These are the things we can physically see. Her foster parents are helping her heal the inner emotional scars. Thankfully, Greta is a forgiving sweet soul despite the awful trauma she endured at the hands of a monster.
Because of the pandemic, it took a while to get an appointment to see a neurologist, but we finally did. In the meantime, Greta developed a large mass at the base of her skull. At our appointment, the doctor felt her falling over and rolling episodes she experiences daily, appear vestibular; and rather than brain damage, perhaps the bones inside of her inner ear could have been broken during her abuse. It would also explain why she is deaf. This cannot be determined without an MRI. Before an MRI and spinal tap can be performed, the mass needed to be aspirated. The results came back this week and while there is a little bacteria present that we are treating, the experts felt the mass is a seroma, which developed from severe head trauma. They were not even aware of Greta’s detailed history.
We scheduled Greta for an MRI Monday morning, August 17, 2020. The estimate is $2932 and we have a short time to raise the funds. Greta has some wonderful supporters and the donations she has received to date have covered her medical and given us a head start of $680 toward her MRI. We are trying to raise the remainder of $2200 before Monday’s appointment.
Greta’s story rocks our faith in mankind. Please help us restore some of that faith and help Greta with this next step, which we hope is a step closer on her journey to a forever home.
Noah – Green Dogs Unleashed
Thanks to Barry for reaching out to us for help with his deaf Dalmatian Noah. Noah made his way to our partner rescue here in Virginia Green Dogs Unleashed where he will go into an experienced deaf dalmation foster home, learn new things, make new friends while potential adoptive homes will be very carefully screened.
Max – Deaf Dog Rescue of America
We want to thank Chelsea for reaching out to Deaf Dogs Rock when she discovered her new blue heeler puppy she had gotten from a local breeder in CA to be a working dog on a 40 acre ranch is deaf. Chelsea realized it would be to dangerous for a deaf dog to be running loose on a ranch and we are so thankful she reached out to Deaf Dogs Rock instead of returning the puppy to the breeder. We reached out to the Deaf Dog Rescue of America to see if they had room for deaf puppy Max in their program. Lisa with the Deaf Dog Rescue of America got right back to us and we connected her with Chelsea and Max. Chelsea was kind enough to make the long drive from Northern CA to Southern CA to take Max to the Deaf Dog Rescue of America Ranch and to meet Lisa in person. Thanks to our wonderful supporters, puppies like sweet Max can go to the DDRA, get some training, socialization and find a wonderful and safe forever home.
Odyssey – Poet’s Vision Aussie Rescue
We are always happy to help our rescue partner in Perth Ontario Canada. Tanya with Poet’s Vision Aussie Rescue let us know about Odyssey we wanted to help by sponsoring the deaf puppy into their special needs rescue where the puppy will get additional training, socialization and have all the vetting done prior to being available for adoption.
River – DC Dogos
Thanks to our friends at DC Dogos Rescue for stepping up for sweet deaf puppy River. When her listing came into Deaf Dogs Rock we reached out to her caregiver and told her about our Deaf Dogs Rock Rocker Puppy program and how if River went into our partner rescue DC Dogos she would get the training she needs and also get fully vetted before she goes to her new forever home. We are thankful her owner decided to take advantage of our program and also thankful to Pamela with DC Dogos for stepping up to get River into rescue right away.
Diamond, Zircon, Swagger and Meadow – Speak For The Unspoken – Ohio

When it rains it pours! We are in full deaf puppy season and thank goodness we have so many wonderful special needs rescue partners who step up to except deaf puppies into their rescues just like the four deaf puppies in this post. Thank you Speak For The Unspoken in Ohio for excepting all four deaf puppies. All four of these angels will be sponsored into rescue by our Deaf Dogs Rock Rocker Puppy program so we can help the rescue with some of the financial responsibility that comes with getting deaf puppies fully vetted to get them ready for adoption. In the mean time each puppy goes to an experienced deaf puppy foster home to start to learn their sign cues, their potty training, crate training and also to get socialized around other animals and children.
Marshall and Fletcher – Green Dogs Unleashed

*****Marshall the deaf boston terrier puppy already has an approved home in Richmond VA so he is not going to be available for adoption.
Fletcher – American Bulldog puppy
Thanks to our friends at Green Dogs Unleashed both deaf puppies Marshall and Fletcher are now in the Green Dogs Unleashed rescue/training program. They are with experienced foster families learning new signs for “go potty”, “time to eat”, “time to sleep”, “time to play”, “sit”, and “come” just to name a few. Both puppies are sponsored into GDU through our Deaf Dogs Rock Rocker Puppy Program which will help with their vetting so they can get ready for adoption.
****A big shout out and thanks to our friends Patricia and Vern who work so hard to upcycle old furniture into beautiful new pieces and sell them with a portion of the proceeds going directly to our Rocker Puppy sponsorship program. This month Patricia and Vern have sponsored deaf Boston Terrier puppy Marshall into rescue.
Poncho – Angels of Assisi Rescue – Virginia
Thanks to our friends at Angels of Assisi Rescue here in Roanoke Virginia for taking in sweet 1 year old deaf dog Poncho. Poncho is a one year old deaf Lab/Bully mix who was dropped off at a local rescue farm and brought to Angels of Assisi where he can get his vetting, neutering and where Bobbie (on the right) can work on his sign training. Poncho’s vetting is sponsored by our Deaf Dogs Rock Rocker Puppy sponsorship program.
*****A huge shout out and thank you to our friends and supporters Patricia and Vern who work so hard raising money to send into Deaf Dogs Rock so we can continue to sponsor deaf dogs like Poncho! Because of their support Poncho is now safe at Angels and will be neutered very soon.
Poncho is in great hands because Bobbie is a professional dog trainer who has trained and lived with many deaf dogs. Thanks also to April ( on the left) for taking such good care of Poncho. He will be available for adoption as soon as his neuter surgery is done. To learn more about this rescue or to fill out an adoption application please click here.
Sparrow – Speak St. Louis
When a staff member of a Missouri animal shelter reached out to Deaf Dogs Rock to try to find a deaf puppy with a skin infection a special needs rescue we reached out to our friends Speak St. Louis rescue to see if they could make room for Benji aka Sparrow. Because of your support when we reached out to Speak St. Louis we were able to offer a Rocker Puppy Rescue Sponsorship for Benji into their rescue if they had an open foster. Speak jumped into gear and made room for Sparrow and was transported to Speak St. Louis at the end of August.
