Nitro my deaf white boxer earned his Canine Good Citizen Award in June 2011 at only 10 months old. He is now taking the Delta Society’s Therapy Pet Partner’s Training program so he will be able to take his Delta Pet Partner’s test sometime this year.

Nitro was rescued at 10 weeks of age off Front Street in Salem, Virginia near the river. It is thought that he came from a Boxer breeder who upon discovering he was deaf, decided to dump him near the river. The Salem Animal Shelter rescued him and called me to come and take a look at him. My husband Chris and I adopted Nitro in November of 2010. Nitro has changed our lives so much so that we launched this site Deaf Dogs Rock. This site’s goal is to help other deaf dog owners, educate the public about deaf dogs, be an advocate for deaf dogs and also try to find deaf dogs homes.

This is “flat Nitro” wearing the real Nitro’s Canine Good Citizen medal. We take flat Nitro with us when we travel to get photos of him in all the places we go where he can’t go.

If you have a deaf dog who has earned their CGC Award or their Therapy Dog Registration, and you would like Deaf Dogs Rock to highlight your deaf dog, please send me a bio of your deaf dog along with a couple of photos to christina@deafdogsrock.com
