Meet adoptable deaf dog Tortuga who is looking for a loving forever home with someone who will be his best friend, his advocate and always keep him safe.

From his foster person – Hi! Tortuga is my foster from Tara’s House Rescue, based out of Maryland. He is currently being fostered in Pennsylvania.

He was originally brought into the shelter where I work as a stray, and we realized he is deaf. He’s estimated around 5 years old. He’s neutered, microchipped, and UTD on vaccines.

He was named after Pirates of the Caribbean, and that couldn’t be more fitting, because one of his favorite things is pretending to be a turtle and burrowing under blankets. His other favorites are sucking on his blanket (Did I mention that he loves blankets?) and playing with tennis balls!

On Wednesday he takes his test to become a Canine Good Citizen! He’s getting pretty good at drop it, as well as learning hand signals for basic commands- he’s probably better at sit than my own dogs. He’s crate trained and house trained, and walks perfectly on a leash.

My favorite thing about him is how wonderful he is with dogs- we use him for dog testing at the shelter, and his foster siblings include my 3 dogs, as well as 2 cats and sheep. He also comes with me to my horses farm and does wonderful.

He would do best with an experienced owner and no young children as he is still learning manners.
