Meet adoptable deaf 1.5 year old, Catahoula mix, Stark who is looking for a loving forever home with someone who will cherish him, continue teaching him new things using positive reinforcement training/enrichment and always keep him safe.
Stark does need to be the center of attention and the only animal in his new home. Stark loves being outside so he would be happiest in a new home with a secure fenced in yard to keep him safe. Sometimes Stark can be a velcro dog and hang out with his humans and other times he is independent and off doing his own thing. He loves going on long or short walks and he is wonderful on a leash.
It takes Stark some time to warm up to new people and new situations so he need a loving and patient home. Someone who will be his advocate and not put him in dodgy situations. As far as children goes he would do best in a home with older children (10+). We are working on his crate training and he is starting to learn to be okay in his crate. He loves to go for car rides/truck rides. He is always eager to learn new things.
Here is the deal with our pal Stark…..he is Deaf but in no way does that hinder this sweet boy.
If he is sleeping, he likes you coming into the room tapping on the floor, or couch or crate, or bed…..this will alert him that you are in the room with him. He knows gestures and he is very smart. Once he learns your routine, he will pick up on your body language to know what is going on next or what is expected of him.
Photo above: Scout doing “watch me” training with his handler. He is very treat motivated so positive reinforcement marker training would be perfect for him.
He eats, poops, plays and snuggles like any other dog. The only thing broken on him are his ears. His heart is still the same, it wants a home and a family.
