Meet adoptable deaf, 2.5 year old Yorkshire Terrier Special Ed who is looking for a very special home with someone who will make daily positive reinforcement training/socialization/enrichment/exercise a priority and always keep him safe. He needs a leader who is home and can spend time with him providing a structured and enriched lifestyle. Ed is 12 pounds of exuberance and love.

From his current caregiver: Special Ed is a pet store rescue story. We noticed he was six moths old and still listed at over $4k which was unacceptable. We called the store and spoke with a corporate representative and explained what we were witnessing with Ed and how he was not doing well in the store. Upon dealing with the corporate offices and making a case for Ed, we decided we would take him home to our pack of four other dogs to give him a loving home. We brought Ed home on a Wednesday and by Saturday we realized he was deaf.

Ed was taken for BAER testing and confirmed about 90% deaf (100% in one ear, 90% in the other). We realized the store’s vet had missed ear infections while treating his respiratory illness prior to us bringing him home. Ed was born 8/26/2022. We have had Ed since Feb 2024. We recently got divorced and had to split up our pack which has been difficult due to selling our home and going into apartments that have limits on pets. Ed is quite a handful and we have had a hard time with training and house braking him. While he was with my ex-husband he has been primarily washable belly bands. I have assumed custody of Ed to try to give him some more one on one training and see if we can get him to be less of a kleptomaniac (he steals remotes, watches from chargers, food from tables).

I would like to find a home that can give him the attention and care that he needs. He is kennel trained and gets along with other dogs and kids. I travel quite a bit, work longer hours now with a longer commute, and don’t think it’s fair to keep him kenneled as long as he needs to be due to his behavior. We truly love Ed and his quirks; however, I do think he deserves more than we can give him. I am no in rush to give him to just anyone, and will be taking care and trying to break some of his bad habits until I can find the right/better fit of a home for him. I am thinking a retire person or couple that can encourage his house training and give him the snuggles he loves so much. He is a very happy and sweet boy who deserves someone’s full attention.
