Rufus is a deaf, thoroughly loving, adoptable, snugly 11 -13 yr old male Wheaton Terrier/Yorkie mix who is looking for a loving home with someone who will cherish him and always keep him safe. His owner for his lifetime had human life changes, and so he was released to Midwest Small Dog Rescue.
Rufus weighs 25 lbs, and carries no extra weight in his torso — he’s a tall skinny guy. He doesn’t look or act anywhere near 13 yrs old. He is very energetic, follows his human around the house, leaps readily to high beds and the tops of furniture. This guy would love to run, run, but had little opportunity to do that in his last home.
Outdoors Rufus shows curiosity, and would love to chase squirrels etc. but because he’s deaf he will not respond to a recall; for exercise without a leash he will need a fenced yard, probably over four feet tall because he has readily scaled a gate that high. For on leash exercise he would thoroughly enjoy jogging alongside a human he loves.
This loving guy does come with some “baggage” — limitations that require human care and attention. For one, he hears noises only in very high ranges, as in a shrill whistle. He makes up for hearing loss quite well; his releasing owner didn’t know he was hearing impaired. Rufus is very attentive to his human’s body language and other dogs in the house, and has quickly learned the routine in his foster home.
Rufus’ other baggage is that in public places Rufus goes a bit wacko when he sees other dogs. He does need to have some positive experiences so using a high value treat, watch me training and positive reinforcement training may help.
Rufus is neutered, HTW negative, vaccinated and microchipped. Adoption donation for Rufus is $200. MSDR places dogs in Wisconsin and within a couple hour drive of Chicago. If interested complete the application at: https://goo.gl/forms/G4zV8rZrbghWS31y2
