Meet adoptable deaf dog Riley who was found in the middle of the road. Since his owners never showed up he is now looking for a loving home where he will be cherished and always kept safe. Although they list him as a Lab/Dalmatian mix he looks more like a White English Pointer (his long spotted ears are a dead giveaway). Riley had his first professional dog trainer on June 22 and he did great. He is a quick learner and he is eager to please.
From his caregiver: I was driving home on a Friday evening when I saw this dog on the road being chased by two people. I stopped to lend a hand and when I opened my car door to get out to help them corral the dog he proceeded to come right in my drivers door.
I pushed him back and asked the people chasing him if it was their dog, they said no, just trying to get him out of the road but he would not come to them. I then opened the back to and he jumped right in and laid right down on the seat. I brought him home and fed him and gave him water. His front feet were completely blistered and cut, he had a scuff mark on his nose and forehead. We gave him a shower and found at least 20 ticks. We treated his feet and put a pair of my socks on them, he could barely walk. He is house broken and neutered and gets along well with our other small dogs. Loves to run in the yard, and also loves to go for walks on a leash. We discovered that he does not hear but does feel the vibrations on the floor when we need his attention.
He must have been well cared for, for awhile, he has evidence of a collar and must have been an inside dog. When we took him to the veterinarian on Monday to see if he had a chip, (which he does not) we discovered he loves to go in the car, again he laid right down and went to sleep. This is how we named him Riley, because he now has the life of Riley :). There were children at the office with their pets and he really liked them. The Veterinarian she said he was maybe 2 years old, and really healthy except for his feet, which are completely healed now. I found him on June 1, 2018 and posted found dog on Facebook and other lost/ found sites which has been shared at least 100 time, but have not had anyone claim him, it has been 20 days now. He is a kind and loving soul and has caught on well to a few hand signals. We plan on having a dog trainer come help us on June 22nd, so we and any future forever family will be able to communicate with him better. He will do well with a family that has room for him to run and play and have other dogs his size. We would keep Riley however, our other dogs are smaller (Yorkie size) and don’t quite know how to play with him, they are also much older and set in their ways (Spoiled that is) :). If you or anyone you know would like to get a well behaved boy, Riley would be a great choice for you and your family.
