Meet adoptable deaf dog Petey who is looking for a loving forever home with someone who will teach him new things, become his new best friend and always keep him safe.

From his caregiver: Petey is almost all white with a patch of brown around his left eye. Underneath his coat are the cutest cow spots on pink skin.

Petey was listed at a local animal shelter at 3 months old and we were told he didn’t know his name. When we wouldn’t react to us coming home if he wasn’t looking at the door, we consulted his vet who declared him deaf (or at least mostly). Petey has been with us for almost 4 years now along with our 12+ year old maine coon cat. He has so much personality – he’s very vocal and reminds me of a husky! He is incredibly playful and his absolute favorite game is chase and tug. He gets along with the cat OK but is nervous around him. Petey wants nothing more than to be loved by you all the time. We love our special Pete but no longer have the time for him that he needs and we want the best for him.

Petey is very good with learning commands and already knows sit, stay, lay down, roll over (sort-of), come, and how to wait patiently for his food until he’s released and allowed to eat. He would do best in a house where his training is continued because he responds really well to commands and enjoys the interaction. He doesn’t like to be alone – he only wants outside to do his business and then he wants to come back inside. He’s fine if you leave the house during the day (he was only destructive as a puppy) but he’d prefer to have a window to watch out of because he’ll most assuredly be there looking for you when you get back! He’s OK with some dogs (mostly big dogs that can handle themselves) but he tends to annoy them. ABSOLUTELY LOVES PEOPLE! He’s never met a person he doesn’t like but he does his job as protector of the house if something seems off. He loves eggs and vegetables but there are eating foods and there are rolling foods so protect your carpet.

Petey enjoys the art of pulling apart rope toys or any other toys that aren’t indestructible. We’ve got a selection of toys that have been petey-approved that you can take with you. He sheds like crazy but Zesty Paws Krill bites help to cut down on that a lot and the 4Health dog food from tractor supply has worked out the best for him because he gets itchy.

Things Petey Loves:
Eating (eggs are the BEST!)
Playing chase and tug or shredding destructible toys
Shredding dried leaves
The zoomies
Training activities
Sleeping on the couch with you (he’ll be out for the rest of the night)
Being close to you
Following you around the house
Going on walks
PEOPLE! Visitors are the best but we struggle to control our excitement (no biting).
