Thank you to all of our supporters who donated to Deaf Dogs Rock in the month of December to keep our mission going! The core mission of our Deaf Dogs Rock Rocker Puppy program is to set up each deaf puppy/dog for success by sending them into a experienced special needs rescue where they go into a experienced deaf dog foster home that is committed to training and socializing each deaf dog that comes into their care. This way each foster advocate gets the opportunity to live with the deaf dog, work with the deaf dog and accurately evaluate each deaf dog/puppy to make sure to match the dog with the right home once the adoption screening process starts. The adoption screening process is very thorough. Each interested family must fill out an adoption application that asks lots of questions and a full list of references is required to be considered for adoption.
We work with shelters, rescues, private individual and breeders to help get each deaf puppy into our program to make sure each deaf dog/puppy gets the individual training, socialization, and love to grow up to become a cherished member of society. Deaf Dogs Rock is a judgement free zone and are here to help deaf dogs and puppies get a fresh start and a chance at a great life.
When screening potential homes for a deaf dog/puppy, there are many guidelines to follow like checking all references, talking to the applicants veterinarian and performing a thorough home visit to make sure each home is a safe place for a deaf or deaf/blind dog. This is why our Deaf Dogs Rock Rocker Puppy is so important to set each deaf pup up for a successful happy life in their new home. Our Rocker Puppy program financially sponsors each deaf dog/puppy so the dogs can be spay/neutered before they are adopted to a new family. We only work with rescues and advocacy organizations who are committed in making sure each deaf dog/puppy is spay/neutered before being placed in a new home.
It is our number one mission to make sure each deaf dog and puppy gets basic training, socialization. are in a loving and caring foster home where their confidence soars. Our partners set each deaf dog up for success. Jan – December 2019, Deaf Dogs Rock has sponsored a total of 146 deaf dogs and puppies into have been sponsored into rescue so far this year.
In December 2019, our Deaf Dogs Rock community sponsored 22 deaf dogs into the safe harbor of rescue so they can start on their new journey to finding their forever homes. Thank you to all of you who continue to support Deaf Dogs Rock by donating, hosting fundraisers and spreading the word to family and friends on how awesome deaf dogs can be.
With your continued support and donations, Deaf Dogs Rock has sponsored 671 deaf dogs/puppies (as of 12/31/19) into rescue over the past five years and we could not have done it without the full support of our amazing Deaf Dogs Rock community so thank you, thank you, thank you for the bottom of our hearts! ~ Christina Lee and the entire DDR team
Kayleigh – Speak St. Louis
When Speak St. Louis told us about a 14 week old deaf puppy named Kayleigh, we knew we needed to help. Kayleigh was originally put on Craigslist as a free hearing pregnant Aussie dog but when Speak picked up Kayleigh they realized she was just a non-pregnant 14 week old deaf Aussie puppy. Boy was she lucky to land in just the right organization where she will go into a special needs foster, learn her sign cues and get her vetting done while special homes are being screened. With the help of our Deaf Dogs Rock community, Kayleigh was sponsored into Speak St. Louis so she can get the vetting she needs to become available for adoption soon.
Fiona – Angels of Assisi
When Libby from the Roanoke Valley Animal Control reached out to us about a deaf dog in their care we offered a rescue sponsorship for deaf dog Fiona. Our friends at Angels of Assisi rescue here in Roanoke were kind enough to make room for Fiona at their rescue. Bobbie one of the trainers at Angels has lived with and trained many deaf dogs so she will be able to work with Fiona while she is there at Angels. I went down to Angels of Assisi to visit Fiona, fit her for a new collar and harness and take her for a walk. She was such a good girl!

Ford, Ferrari, Frosty, Harrison and Pax – Amazing Lethal White Aussies of Arizona
Above: Deaf pups Ford and Ferrari
When we heard from our friends the Lethal White Aussies of Arizona and learned they took in many deaf dogs with visual impairments we wanted to help. By sponsoring the five deaf dogs that have recently come into their rescue they can get the vetting they need to have their vision tested and get their vetting done so they can become available for adoption in the near future. By supporting them, it will allow them to take in other deaf dogs in need of medical care.
Gina – Gracie’s Pit Bull Rescue – CA
We are so thankful to Gracie’s Pit Bull rescue for pulling Gina to safety into their rescue where she will have a chance at a new beginning. When we got word this sweet girl was sitting in a Riverside shelter in California, we knew we had to put up a rescue plea with a Deaf Dogs Rock Rocker Puppy sponsorship offer to save her. Gina was recently moved out of public view of the adoption floor and we got a “last chance at rescue” post about her. We scrambled and started posting urgent pleas on all of our D.D.R. social media pages and Gracie’s Pit Bull rescue stepped up and saved her just in the nick of time! Thanks to our supporters who send in donations so we can step up and help dogs like Gina make it to the safe harbors of rescue.
Winter – Paws To Care Coalition
When we saw Winter on Instagram being saved after being thrown away by a puppy mill breeder because she is a double merle puppy who can only see in one eye and is deaf, we knew we had to offer some help. We reached out to Paws 2 Care Coalition and we offered Winter a Rocker Puppy sponsorship to help with her medical needs so she can get the vetting she needs to get her ready for a future adoption. Thanks to Lori Haydu for contacting us so we can help out and thank you to all of our supporters who continually send in financial support so we can help little puppy’s like Winter get the help they need. I just know she is going to find a loving home sometime in the near future.
Clyde – Do Over Dogs A Second Chance At Life
In this job I run across the worst in humanity (people who sell their deaf puppies on Craig’s List so they can buy another puppy) and I also run across the best of humanity. Thanks to rescue warrior women Lindsey Rubens, Rhea Thayer, Felicia Forsythe for working together to get sweet deaf puppy Clyde off of Craig’s List into the safe arms of rescue with Do Over Dogs A Second Chance at Life in Broomfield Colorado. It was such a pleasure to work with these woman. It was an emotional roller coaster for all involved to get sick puppy Clyde to safety but we all came together in the end and he is safe. He was sponsored into rescue by Nitro’s Fund. Clyde went into foster care and his foster family fell in love with him so he is going to be adopted by them.
Helen and Blanca – Speak For The Unspoken Ohio
Sweet Helen and Blanca

Gracie aka Aspen is now safe with Sanctuary Acres Boxer Rescue
When we heard about a deaf 11.3 year old boxer named Gracie in Northern Virginia that was being kept outside full time because the owner had moved in with her boyfriend, we knew we had to do something. We contacted the owner and she agreed to surrender the deaf boxer girl to us. I personally drove up North to go get her. When I got there she was very cold, very skinny and in a kennel filled with poop. I rushed her back to Roanoke, Virginia to meet my friend Monsita with Sanctuary Acres Boxer Rescue. Monsita took Gracie now named Aspen to the vet. Aspen will be sponsored into rescue by Nitro’s fund.
Daisy and Daisy – Crazy Claws N Paws Rescue Goldsboro NC
Both of these senior deaf dogs lost their human because their human passed away. When Dawn reached out to Deaf Dogs Rock we offered a rescue sponsorship for both dogs but we all know senior deaf dogs can be much harder to place. Crazy Claws N Paws Rescue in Goldsboro answered the call for rescue backing and Dawn has agreed to continue to foster these two seniors named Daisy and little Daisy. We appreciate Tammie Hedges with Crazy Claws N Paws Rescue for helping Dawn and the two Daisy dogs out.
Jersey – DC Dogo Rescue

Panda Bear aka Bandit – Speak St. Louis
When we got word that close to Speak St. Louis was a deaf Australian Shepherd puppy who need help. we reached out to our friends at Speak St. Louis for help. They send a wonderful person to go get Panda Bear so he could go into a safe and loving foster care home, learn all kinds of cool new signs and tricks. Speak St. Louis will carefully and thoroughly screen potential homes to make sure Polar Bear goes to a home that is committed to doing positive reinforcement training/socialization and love this little boy to help him become the best he can be.
Lyra – DC Dogos
Little 5 month old Lyra came from a breeder who could not sell her so when DC Dogos Rescue reached out to Deaf Dogs Rock for help we were only to happy to sponsor Lyra into their wonderful rescue. Thanks to our friend Isa for volunteering to foster Lyra. Isa is always stepping up to help deaf dogs in need of foster care and rescue. Thanks to DC Dogos for making sure Lyra is in a safe place where she can start to learn her signs, get socialized and also be able to be a puppy and have some fun.
