Meet adoptable deaf, 2 year old bully mix Arlo who is currently looking for a loving forever home with someone who will cherish him, become his new best friend, teach him new signs and always keep  him safe.

From his caregiver: Meet Arlo- a gorgeous, all white, green eyed 80lb Pittie Mix. Arlo was born Deaf nearly 2 yrs ago and is looking for a forever home that will see his deafness as an attribute not a disability.

Arlo is very smart, curious and is willing to learn and be trained. This past year in Seattle Arlo has been learning ASL from a family with ASL experience as well as a deaf human child. Arlo has mastered several commands: look at me, sit, stay, go, come, play, no, good boy, wait, water, eat, go potty, down. Arlo knows a special ‘visual release command’ telling him it’s ok to stop looking at his handler/trainer-Arlo knows the importance of constantly looking to make sure his handler/trainer is within his sight and visually checks in regularly.

Like all Deaf dogs, Arlo is observant of his surroundings and takes cues from the energy given off by people and his environment.

Arlo has spent a year going to an off leash dog park and has been successful learning to play with dogs of all sizes and temperament and understanding boundaries. His home environment has had 3 other smaller dogs. Arlo does resource guard his food and will need someone to prioritize that if there are other pets (they will need to be fed separately and no free feeding ever).

Arlo loves to swim and play fetch in the water, walks, nature hikes, tug of war and affection and lap time. He is very healthy and up to date on all his shots.

Deaf dogs are magical and offer an amazing, deep bond when given the chance to thrive and live. Could you be the home that will offer that to sweet Arlo? Current family is willing to figure out travel for the perfect fit of a forever home. Arlo’s adoption fee is $150 to a screened and approved home (please contact the lister to get a blank adoption application sent to  you to be considered for Arlo’s adoption) and you must live within a 200 mile drive of Seattle WA to be considered.
