The Deaf Dogs Rock Team had the pleasure of delivering high quality, real meat, dog treats from Kong Premium Dog Treats and Durango Dog Treats to five of our local shelters last week. We dressed up our deaf dogs Nitro and Bud in their favorite Santa sweaters and hit the road. We had a blast delivering treats in our Deaf Dogs Rock Transport vehicle to our local shelters and rescues. We reached out to JAKKS Pets to help us put together a special Christmas surprise for our local shelter dogs and they agreed to help.

A big shout out to Kong Premium Treats, Durango Dog Treats and JAKKS Pets. for helping us help our local shelter dogs at during the Holidays. We appreciate their kind consideration and generousity. It was so nice being able to deliver high quality dog treats made right here in the U.S. A. to our local shelter pups!

Below are photos from our local deliveries on December 17, 2014 with our Deaf Dogs Rock team.

I found a creative way to wrap 50% of the gift box treats by making a 16″ folded band (made from doggy gift wrapping paper) and I looped the band around each box to make them more festive for our special deliveries.

Our very first delivery was at the City of Salem Animal Shelter. We have a great group of people who work in Animal Protection here in Salem. Pictured above is the City of Salem Animal Control officers and the shelter staff members. Because of City of Salem Animal Shelter, Deaf Dogs Rock exists today because they are the shelter who saved my deaf dog Nitro and called me to come and meet him.

The shelter dogs will go crazy for the Kong Sweet Potato chewy treats! If you would like to order some sweet potato dog treats, click here.

Thanks to the City of Salem Animal Shelter Staff for helping us unload all the Holiday goodies for the shelter pups!

Our second stop was the Roanoke Valley SPCA.

Right next door to the Roanoke Valley SPCA is the RCACP – Regional Center for Animal Care and Protection where they hold many animals waiting for owners to turn up and claim them or put them up for adoption. We even got lucky and talked a couple of the Roanoke Animal Control officers into coming outside for a photo op but it wasn’t until we mentioned ALL the City of Salem Animal Control officers participated in Salem’s photo op (I think there may be a little friendly competition going on between the two departments).

While I was trying to round up everyone for a photo at the RCACP, they took me back and let me meet a 12 week old Deaf puppy that was an owner surrender and they needed this little boy to be rescued. We decided right then and there we would sponsor and transport the puppy named Ryland into Green Dogs Unleashed Rescue in Troy, VA.

Our fourth stop was Angels of Assisi Rescue here in Roanoke where we sponsor many deaf dogs into rescue. The rescue has little tin buckets clipped on each dog kennel to fill with treats. This encourages people to interact with the rescue dogs in a positive way so people are walking through the kennel area they can stop and  give each dog a treat. Below is a photo of the Angels of Assisi Rescue Warriors.

Our fifth stop was at the Franklin County Humane Society in Rocky Mount, Virginia. There we were joined by our Deaf Dogs Rock Board member David Lang (playing Santa).

SK8Nitro joyful and laughing!

Doing Shelter Outreach directed at our Virginia animal shelters gives deaf dogs locally a second chance. By creating awareness that Deaf Dogs Rock is here to rescue, sponsor, transport, network, and list deaf dogs up for adoption, we let shelters know they have a resource they can use right here in the Roanoke Valley.  All they have to do is shoot us an email and we do our best to come up with a solution to get deaf dogs to safety.

Thank you, thank you, thank you to Kong Premium Dog Treats, Durango Dog Treats (Durango treats can be found at Home Goods, Marshalls or TJ Maxx in the Pet isle) and JAKKS Pets for helping us spread Christma cheer to shelter dogs throughout the Roanoke Valley.

According to my deaf dogs Nitro, Bud and myself, you all totally ROCK!
